lulz SC2= StarCraft 2. I only got an hour into FFXIII before ragequitting. The horrible acting and voicework drove me nuts. Also, there's a cutscene every 2 seconds. It just feels like it should have come out around 15 years ago, the battle system is super lame.
I guess I'm going to attempt to play Dante's Inferno. I remember quitting right about the point when the game asked me to kill aborted fetuses. Something about that made me cringe for society.

Now would be my moment of defending FF furiously but...13 really was just massive ass and boredom. Played through it though but unemployed people have a LOT of time so yeah. Even if it came out 15 years ago it wouldīve dissappointed in the story department. As we would say here: It wouldnīt even win a flower pot. No flower pot for FF13. No Sir.
Just tried out Blacklight aaaand...I guess Iīll just play a bit Modern Warfare 2 instead :lol

Started the Prince of Persia reboot the other day. I know a lot of people are down on it, but I'm kinda enjoying it. Yea, the Prince isn't really a prince, and he's far from Persian (well, he's straight-up Nolan North) but I kinda like the conversations he has with Elika, and the way they interact in the gameplay is kinda...cute. Like swinging on the same pole together, or that little twirl they do when they switch sides standing on a beam.
I want a magical chick with little clothing to follow me around and help me do stuff. Except she wouldn't give me shit like Elika. Basically I just want the chick from I Dream of Genie.
Oh right, the game's pretty good too. Collecting seeds is pretty annoying, but it's fun to go through a level after you heal it. I like the way Prince isn't really "locked in" on where he can and can't go, even though you technically only have a few options, there's still a way to cheat the game sometimes if you're clever enough.
Tried Alien Swarm, cause it's free on Steam. Because I wanted the TF2 hat for playing two missions. Yes, I'm a bad person. But the game's actually kinda fun. It's just an overhead version of Left 4 Dead, except the zombies are aliens, and the character you pick effects your weapons and party role. So like TF2 and L4D having a baby that's 3rd person overhead. Hard to get a game going, though, and friendly fire means I (the medic usually, cause no one ever wants to be the medic and I don't want us to lose) gets whooped harder by my own stupid teammates than the aliens.
I'm back into SSF4 too. Trying to learn Ibuki's combos, but they're really fast on the input. Cody's another one I'm trying to learn, cause he's awesome.

As far as I recall there was one. Some big guy who would grab and throw you across the room when you tried it. All you had to do was use the dagger to slow down time and he then couldnt grab you. Oh and that maneuver would also refill your dagger so you could keep doing it if you needed to.

It's funny that Warrior Within actually improved the combat system and the platforming, but people unanimously hated the game because the prince was no longer a crybaby douchebag. I didn't know that improvements could garner so much hatred in the gaming community.

He wasn't a crybaby in the original. A spoiled prince? yea. But he's kinda supposed to be a Prince. I think the word's somewhere in the title.
Angsty "Crawling in my Skin" McAngsterton isn't an appealing character. At least in Two thrones they were back on track and had a solid ending to the trilogy. Even if the two prince thing sucked.

I was a little disappointed when I first bought this item, because the functionality is limited. My 5 year old son pointed out that the passenger's shoes cannot be removed. Then, we placed a deadly fingernail file underneath the passenger's scarf, and neither the detector doorway nor the security wand picked it up. My son said "that's the worst security ever!". But it turned out to be okay, because when the passenger got on the Playmobil B757 and tried to hijack it, she was mobbed by a couple of other heroic passengers, who only sustained minor injuries in the scuffle, which were treated at the Playmobil Hospital.
The best thing about this product is that it teaches kids about the realities of living in a high-surveillence society. My son said he wants the Playmobil Neighborhood Surveillence System set for Christmas. I've heard that the CC TV cameras on that thing are pretty worthless in terms of quality and motion detection, so I think I'll get him the Playmobil Abu-Gharib Interogation Set instead (it comes with a cute little memo from George Bush).

It really does. I was getting smacked every 2-3 seconds in the fight, but then I found that the combination of the damage and heatseeking from those things makes them invaluable against the Supreme Hunter.
None of the infantry weapons seem that effective when they're being used on you, but they do wonders against organic enemies, especially rifles vs soldiers.

Thanks Dr. Boogie! Maybe I can actually beat it now lol. I started playing Alan Wake on Nightmare, and it really holds to the standard of being like a fucking nightmare. 2 hits and you're dead. Downloaded a really fun iphone game yesterday. You 're a god, and you follow your hero's fake twitter account as he goes on quests and kills monsters in your name, tweeting everything as he goes.
My hero's first battle was against Dr. Chaos. He won, and Chaos gave him an item before drowning himself in a nearby volcano. Joe Hero (that's what I named him) then went to a merchant to sell his goods, knocked out the merchant's teeth, then sold them to ANOTHER merchant, after which he proceeded to ask the merchant's daughter out on a date.
Today, he helped a dying Tripodal Spider pick up his wallet ("he doesn't need it anyways") and rescued a bunny ("it was delicious") before fighting a Panzer Dragon. His current equips are a cardboard box for his head ("it'll look great on me!"), mud coating for his body, prison handcuffs for his arms ("they're beautiful. And just my size!") a sharp stick for a weapon and an elephant's ear for a shield.
This is probably my favorite iPhone game so far, since it updates every few minutes, and all I have to do is encourage/punish him and send him divine messages. Perfect for killing a minute or two when you're in line or waiting for a commercial break to end. There's even a browser version (godvillegame.com) but I'm not sure if that's as good.

Yeah Oxblood. The whole first section of the game feels like a western, with cheesy Texas rock music. Even when you get aboard the Hyperion it doesn't change much. Raynor and Tychus have these horrible southern accents. Everyone feels like a stereotype, which is kind of sad to see in this day and age.

Ar Tonelico 2. God why the fuck is this game rated "6 and up" here? The whole thing is full of innuendos...don´t wanna know how a...let´s say a 12-year old can play this thing without going "hurr hurr...boobies" every 5 minutes...
Apart from that it´s a really good game actually, I´m suprised. Interesting story and the whole "curing a female nutcase"-mechanic is strangely appealing. Honestly, most of the game´s appeal comes from the two female leads being...unnecessarily complex...like many women are. Only in real life, your girl doesn´t develop deadly magical powers when you sort her messed up mind out with her...
But still what´s up with that innuendo-thing...really wasn´t necessary...

I've been playing Sega Superstars Tennis on the wii, and I'm baffled. It's....fantastic! The motion controls and the traditional controls are very accurate, and there is a lot of room for high level play. I never thought I'd say that about a game featuring Sonic and Ulala with tennis racquets.

Concerning Ar Tonelico, I was forced to pick one of the two girls and play "her" version of the story...chose the stuck up royal bitch. Why? Because she didn´t lie to me for the first 9 hours of the game. If there´s one thing I can´t stand, it´s emotional betrayal, be it real life or part of a fictional story.
Then again, I can now apparently amplify my girls songpower via kick-ass-space-laser-station-thingy...sure, why not. Or use her fanclub for bonusses...or...equip those gals...don´t know how they equip them but it works.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania:_Harmony_of_Despair#Reception
I can't link the sites directly right now but the wiki entry says:
Harmony of Despair was met with negative to mixed reviews[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania:_Harmony_of_Despair#cite_note-12). Resolution Magazine was disappointed with its "somewhat fiddly gameplay" and for only having six different stages. They concluded their review with a score of 6/10.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania:_Harmony_of_Despair#cite_note-13) Destructoid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destructoid) also awarded the game 6/10, stating that "ultimately it feels like Castlevania Lite -- a stripped down version of a real Castlevania game with none of the depth or clever design."[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania:_Harmony_of_Despair#cite_note-14) Eurogamer criticised the multiplayer, mentioning that "Harmony of Despair strips Castlevania down to its lowest common denominator in order to make multiplayer function, rather than reinventing the game to make multiplayer thrive". It was given a a final rating of 4/10.[ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania:_Harmony_of_Despair#cite_note-EuroGamer-11)
Basically that its like a BASIC BASIC BASIC version of castlevania is really short but with multiplayer. Also its 1200 points.

Dr. Boogie
Aug 7th, 2010, 01:48 AM
The rumor is that the first DLC adds Maria and Julius Belmont to the game. Why Julius and not, say, Richter? No idea.
I've been playing it because I'm a sucker for Castlevania.
Every seems pretty balanced. The stages themselves aren't too tough, but then you get to the bosses, and things get rough. In particular, the Puppet Master is total BS. Dracula wishes he had a no-miss attack that takes nearly half your life.
I'm finding that I just cannot play as anyone but Shanoa for the tougher levels. From the get-go, her starting spells are just so goddamn powerful, they only get stronger when you use them, and most have ridiculous range to boot. Compare this to guys like Soma who are getting weapons that do as much damage as Shanoa's spells do at the beginning of the game, toward the end of the game.
The downside: I've nearly completed the game, and I've only found four other glyphs for her (that is, her weapons and spells). Kind of a bummer when you consider the other characters getting dozens of new weapons and such.

Me neither but I just bought it after watching the more favorable Gametrailers-Review.
So far itīs actually pretty fun.
Itīs some kind of mutated bastard-child of the two big Castlevania-Eras, Pre-Sotn and Post-Sotn. Thereīs no real leveling-by-killing for all characters but Jonathan for example gets stronger by hitting things with his sub-weapons, same for Shanoa. Charlotte improves by blocking projectiles, Soma does his usual soul-stuff, so he too must kill shit to get stronger, even though he is more reliant on loot, as is Alucard who must get his Dark Magic stuff and weapons from drops.
I like the challenge, even though I canīt kill old man Dracula solo yet...so no hard-mode with good loot for me.
The negative things about C-HD are the way some of the characters level (if you want quick results at least) and some of the item-restrictions.
You can only have one kind of healing-item with you and of that a maximum of three (high potions heal 60HP, most Chars have around 300 HP max, Super Potions heal the whole team to full but only one can be carried and they cost 5000 gold).
If one player dies on coop, he turns into a skeleton that can still walk and jump around but has a very weak attack. Should he die again, you lose 3 or 4 minutes of time (I think).
Reviving is done by opening a blue chest which always contain waters of life. You can carry it in addition to your other healing item but only one water can be carried at a time. Use it on the skeleton and presto, 100% health for your buddy.
Not really a negative point because it fits the overall challenge rather well but some people might not like it.
And itīs a coop-game first and foremost. Iīve only played it with one other person yet but itīs a lot more fun with other people than it is alone.
All in all I like it, even though itīs not what I first expected or wanted.

Downloaded Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Man, that game is frustrating, and not in a good way. I prefer Castle Crashers to be honest. Moving is just really slow, and attacks never seem to connect as often as they should. Plus the enemies are just cheap. Good beat 'em ups like Turtles in Time were feasible solo, but this requires some grinding. Some parts of the game, like breaking down the doors in Lv 3, just couldn't be done as far as I could tell (unless I needed to level up or buy more stuff, but come on man.) None of the upgrades really feel meaningful, unlike Castle Crashers.
Oh, and lack of online co-op really sucks, but to make it worse, there's zero Drop-in or Drop-out function, so all four players need to be there, in the living room, from start to finish. They better patch this.
At least the soundtrack is awesome, and it's got cute nods here and there to games and the comics, but the charm doesn't make the game much fun on your own, so you need to get other people to play with you if you want to enjoy it.

About the same complaints I have about it. I absolutely love the art and soundtrack but man, Scott has the reach of a 4-year-old and some enemies just make me want to burn them dead. Like those Aliens and Dinosaurs in the Movie-Level, god they suck. Clearly designed for 2+ players. And of course Iīd just say "Oi Phoenix, letīs just play coop!" but nooo I would have to fly to whereever he happens to live to do that. Couch-Coop only is not acceptable in 2010. Retro, yes but stupid. I canīt remember when someone came over to play that kind of Coop...oh wait, that mustīve been in the late 90s probably. Damn.
Still, I like it but itīs mainly the awesome looks that save it.

I just think if they couldn't include online, at least let players drop-in. Like every other arcade and console beat 'em up since...ever. I tried to get someone to jump in cause the game starts off really frustrating (level 2 anyone?) I do plenty of local multiplayer, but not everyone has the time to sit down and just beat a game in one sitting (the game saves your progress, but you still need to go back to the title screen if someone joins or leaves.) OH! And a warning for people playing Co-Op! Characters' stats are saved, but the stats are tied to an account! So if someone's playing as a guest, their stats won't be saved!
At least the game gets less frustrating when you start buying stuff, but you're too poor to afford anything at the start, so to actually have a chance at beating level three without dying, I had to replay the first level (it was impossible for me to break the walls fast enough to outrun Todd's psychic attack). Then after I bought some stuff, turned out I was TOO strong and the whole game became easy! When you get to level 14, you can go full retard while holding an item and not worry about being hit. At least on Average Joe. I'm playing through again now with a new character on the next difficulty.
Oh, and the ending for Scott is...uh...wow. That's not how the book ended at all. Though I don't really like Ramona to be honest, so I kinda loved it. I'm curious to see what the others are.

I forgot that you're in Germany Ox. Is Gamescon any good? Or is it like a mini E3?
OxBlood
Aug 20th, 2010, 02:13 AM
Hm, hard to tell for me. E3 is first, so most of the good info is already known when Gamescom starts. The whole thing was pretty dissappointing this year. Almost every game was shown inside those stupid movie-cubes (don´t know how to describe them better, but I´m sure you know what I mean) where you had to wait 2+ hours to see anything, be it COD, Diablo3 or Castlevania and 99% games where either just movies or hands-on presentations, in other words: Worthless.
I did play PS-Move though it was...okay I guess? A bit of lag and the whole thing felt a little slow but it worked in the designated Move-Booths. I didn´t work at all when we tried it in the press area of a company we know...they had one of those things lying around just for fun and the room was apparently too bright and the distance was not ideal so we couldn´t calibrate it...something you have to do before every game I´m told.
But Move still worked way better than Kinect, God that POS sucked. Didn´t get to play myself but you could watch them flailing around in those plastic-booths. I can only repeat what most other people on the net already said: Kinect doesn´t work and when it kind of works, it doesn´t make any sense. You have to move your whole body around slowly and carefully to do what a simple press of a button can do (Starting the fucking game for example).
So yeah, thousands of people standing in line for videos you can probably watch online by now. Quite some Cosplayers there too, don´t know what their deal was, along with a lot of people that really boost your ego as a gamer :D
But I´m not gonna complain, I can drive over there in 20mins, park for free, get in for free...it´s a nice distraction for two or three hours. I guess E3 is still way more important but it´s good to have something like that here, we´re still in the witch-hunt aera over here concerning Shooters and stuff. :D
Oh and I got three (3) tags in DragonQuest XI Tag-Mode...and I guess the GC is THE event for something like that...three...pfff.

I never really liked the first Prime all that much. Dunno why I beat it. I figured playing with the Wii controls would make me like it more, but...ehhh...it's not as much fun as the 2D games, for a lot of reasons. I'll probably boot up one of them today and get my fix.
DougClayton4231
Aug 20th, 2010, 08:44 AM
I heard that the new Dragon Quest is coming out for the Wii, I can't wait to play it.
The thing I've noticed about motion controller technology is that it all depends on the quality of coding from developers. MPT on the Wii plays perfectly even though it doesn't use motion plus, but I had a lot of strange issues with getting the controls to work in Red Steel 2. Kinect might get better with time and experience, like all technology. PS Move has no reason for having lag though, developers have been working with lesser tech on the Wii for 4 years now :P.
OxBlood
Aug 20th, 2010, 09:43 AM
Yeah, I suppose the lighting has to be optimal or something for it to work perfectly...I´m not really a good person to talk about motion-control, cause I don´t get it. I don´t understand why you wouldn´t want to play efficiently and fast by using a controller, doesn´t get much faster than that until they plug those things into our brains :D
I still remember the time when the EyeToy came out. I was fun, sure. For about thirty minutes then we all went back to playing with controllers *shrugs* But as I said, I don´t get it.

Even with the mastery ring it was taking forever so I checked out survival mode. Basically you equip the item that uses HP instead of MP for skills then just burn through it using the one you want to level. When you die you respawn with full health. Rinse. Repeat.
Also select the main subweapon you want to use as DOWN B, then use it while hitting LEFT BUMPER. It will spam the attack faster so its easier to level up. Still takes forever though.

The story was surprisingly interesting, and had very little of SquareEnix's usual JRPG bullcrap. Concerning Nier, it´s still THE best RPG-Story this year and so much better than the abomination known as FF13...ahem.
Still waiting for Baroque, I don´t even know why I want it so bad, it´s not very good but I guess I just hate waiting for stuff...still have to play the second phase of Kuon. It´s a little irritating that the first phase took less than four hours but whatever, the game´s pacing is slow enough as it is.
Even more talking in Ar Tonelico 2 as my Reyvateils get to understand each other and in turn forge Combo-Songmagic. Guess they just have to talk for hours and hours about how they hate but secretly like each other...very cheesy stuff that should be done by talking over a beer in a bar for about an hour, not diving into a strange cyber-dreamworld for (game)weeks that connects their minds and forces them to re-live each others past.
But maybe that´s just japanese mentality for you, no easy way to communicate one´s emotions.

It's a pretty common greeting along with "How is it going?" or "What's up?" or "How's it hanging?"
Most of the time the same greeting is returned without an answer to the question such as:
Me: What's up?
Ox: What's up?
or
Me: What's cracking?
Ox: Not a lot. What's cracking with you?
Me: Same old stuff.

Some of them are just super sneaky too. Like the old Mother Brain room on Crateria from the beginning of the game. That one holds a missle upgrade, and another one in the long shaft connecting that room to the overworld that requires a shinespark and ice beam. Once I did the shinespark for that missle in Maridia, I figured the other upgrades would take way less skill and went for 100%
