I went to Blockbuster this afternoon and they had signs in the windows saying they were in stock. They told me they sold them all in two days :(
It took that long?

Speaking of the Wii I'm considering trading in my 360 for one. I'm pretty much done with the cavalcade of generic shooters and the d-bag kids who play them on Live.
BTW I'm playing good old Operation Flashpoint with a few mods.

I want one because I kinda want to play the new Metroid, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Brawl, and the new Mario Kart coming out next week :(

Man, Mario Kart is like the funnest thing ever. I didn't think it would be as awesome as it is. It's fun for the people playing, but also, watching four of your friends hold a small piece of plastic and pretend it's a steering wheel is the funniest thing ever. Last night we were all sitting next to each other on the couch but soon realised that it's way too easy to cheat seated that way. If your buddy overtakes you over a bridge, just bump his elbow and see if he doesn't go flying off the side. I had 12 twenty-something-year olds in my house yesterday all playing this rediculous game. Seriously good times.

Been playing a bit of Battlefield 2 recently. It's really annoying the way most servers have vehicles disabled these days. I can't wait for a new Battlefield game to come out; Bad Company looks pretty good but it's only out on consoles. Who the fuck wants to play an FPS on consoles?
Battlefield Heroes should be a nice diversion but they really need to get cracking on a proper PC-only sequel.

I was playing Battlefield 2 on a daily basis the last couple of months.
I read somewhere that they are developing BF3. The game is supposed to feature an mmo-like character progression system.
MetalMilitia
Apr 27th, 2008, 05:07 PM
Yeah, there were some "leaked details" a while back for a new Battlefield game. Not sure how trustworthy they were though. My guess is they were details of Battlefield Heroes.
My perfect BF3 would have:
- Same time frame as BF2/Bad Company (modern warfare)
- Proper character development
- More unlockables (weapons, gadgets, abilities, skins, clothes)
- Better ranking system with achievements (Just rip-off CoD4's system but get rid of the cap and have more weapon-specific achievements)

If there's ever a way to have a FPS battle between console and PC, I want in on it. Everyone's all, "Oooh! FPS on PC is so much better than on console." I don't believe it. I got mad analogue stick skillz & drillz.
MetalMilitia
Apr 28th, 2008, 09:03 AM
You can probably get away with a control pad in games like HALO and CoD4 but when you need access to more than about 6 functions you're screwed. For example in Battlefield you need stuff like the squad command menu, the squad communications menu, the general communications menu, all the weapon keys, sprint, switch kit, change fire mode, the list goes on. On a PC you can just bind them straight to the keyboard and mouse however you want. If you were to try and map them all to a controller it'd take about 30 seconds each time you wanted to switch to a different fire mode.
Which is all really irrelevant because the analogue sticks are to slow to aim with. :/
T-Rex
Apr 28th, 2008, 09:08 AM
Okay, I can see how a stick would be slower than a mouse. However, if the sensitivity was high enough, I think that shouldn't be a problem. Sure, a pad is limited in function so that's why I think it would be interesting to see a match between only two people. Are console players limited to hardware? It'll be fun to find out.

There were a lot of missions in that game that filled me with rage, the worst offender being the one where you had to get Lance out of the junkyard and I kept trying to use a helicoptor which would explode upon me crashing it to land because what the fuck were they thinking with the keyboard controls jesus christ
I simply cannot go any further, because now I have to carefully pilot a seaplane over the city spreading porn movie posters, and it controls like it's towing a huge african bull elephant.

I've played Sins of the Solar Empire for a couple of hourse now and it's actually pretty good. The lack of campaign doesn't even bother me. I don't know how it'll hold up for long term play, since many games like this get kinda boring after a while.
What really pissed me off though: The save file of a round I had already been playing on for 2 hours (long rounds in this game) got corrupted, and my brother had played, so the autosaves were all for his game, which means I just lost those 2 hours of game time and have to start a new game. I'm just glad I wasn't further (as I said, loooong rounds) but it still pissed me off.

I just played through all The Godfather's mission in TWO DAYS, and I am not gonna extort every piece of shit business in this game. Seriously, what the hell? I got about 10 hours of playing time out of this game, and it doesn't have much replayability either. I'm just glad I didn't pay for it.
Thas game was pretty lazily designed in the first place though anyway. It's got a total of about 6 car models or so, which is just sad for a game of its kind. And they could've made a couple more designs for businesses, rackets and warehouses, because as it was, it got boring very quickly. Going through the same halls, having enemies hide behind the same boxes and peeking around the same corners all the time.

I started one of these, but after 2 hours it would just constantly crash. So I started another one, with the same settings, and again, 2 hours into the game, it will crash 2 minutes after loading, so I've decided to fuck that. And yes, I've got the newest patch installed.

I was actually just buying regions off the other factions toward the end because I had so much money. About a third of my Kingdom was purchased.
I'm probably never gonna finish the Americas campaign 'cause I got pised off by the ridiculously boring battles. Sending one horde of indians against another is just not that interesting.
Unless Mass Effect comes in the mail sooner than expected, I'm gonna do the Teutonic campaign next, but I'm not sure what I should play as. Question: Any time I'm approaching a soldier from behind, he magically turns around and sees me (unlike MGS1 and 2). I go slow, and those fuckers keep magically sensing me. I know I'm doing something wrong, because I rarely pull off CQC at all. How I do suck less? :(

I don't care what anyone says, this game is SEX.
Although without voice communication, I'm having a really hard time strategizing with my teammates, especially when I have the flag and am desperately running in circles to get the attention of someone in a car that might possibly bring me to safety.

It's kinda difficult to deal with the spine. That's one thing I'm frustrated with. That, and the demo's lack of body parts means there's no wings. I didn't realize until I was nearly done creating Trogdor.
I think I'll make a human next. One thing I love is watching the creatures move around, because they look so convincing, yet so stupid. If they're fat, they'll jiggle when they move. One creature ended up being pretty top heavy, so he would almost fall over when he turned. I can't wait to see how a person would look.

Silent Hill!
Holy shit, this game is ridiculous. The dialogue is even more badly written and delivered than in Silent Hill 2, and now I know that everyone thinks SH2 is fantastic in the storytelling aspect because they were comparing it to the first one. I can't skip cutscenes, either, and for some reason pressing escape immediately kills the game, no questions asked, so I get to sit through Harry meeting Cybil again, which I am pretty sure is the most horrendous thing I've ever witnessed.
Also, the PC port removes the PSX grainyness from the graphics, but for some reason they didn't do anything with the character models, so everyone looks like they're made out of jell-o.
The atmosphere is really topnotchly brickshitting, though. I'm willing to forgive any game's absolutely tear-inducing cutscenes if it manages to make my heart race like crazy before I've even played it for 5 minutes.
I also still haven't been able to play 3 because my video card isn't hardcore enough, but that's looking better and better every second :<

no, I got to about the DOG HOUSE LEVIN ST. note and now I am calling it quits for a while because fuck this game :<
This is a really lazy port. It's basically the PSX .iso running on an emulator, except you can't assign what keys you want to the buttons on the virtual control pad, and the ones the all-knowing and wise programmer picked out are awful. It's also got a savestate feature, for fuck's sake. Although I forsee that being useful, because running around the town being able to only see 1 foot in front of my face is really tiring. This is one of those games where I just have to go "OK, DONE" every so often and quit on the spot, then pick it back up later when I forget that I hate it.
Most of my time in Silent Hill 2 was spent wishing I was playing Resident Evil instead. In a similar fashion, most of my time in this game is spent wishing I was playing Silent Hill 2.

Just started Mass Effect on PC. Really like it so far, especially the conversation trees. It's probably the best implementation of conversations I've ever seen in a game. They've managed to cover just about everything you might want to say if you were in each situation. The voice acting and character animation really adds to the experience too.
The only problems I've had with the game so far are remembering all the character/race names and such and the planetary map not working, but that might just be down to my copy being a bit dodgy.
Still hoping that one day someone will do a modern warfare-based RPG but until then this should be a good time killer.

If if you have enough ammo and health packs, you should be able to just plug away at her without really putting any effort into it. Seriously, does every game this gen have to be a fucking mud simulator
Mass Effect is actually a very colourful game. Not sure where you got the idea that it was GOW brown. My guess is not having played it must have something to do with it.

"GTA's missions are generally universally interesting and varied" but yet you were too bored to finish the game? How do those two quotes even make sense together.

I'm at a point in GTA3 where I just cannot go any further as it is too fucking hard, and I go a little further in San Andreas every month or so.
Happy?
Also I played about 2 hours of Mass Effect, dogshit dogshit dogshit brown.
It might have been my cancerous friend's tampering in the visual options, he did that to GTA 4 too.
I do like Mass Effect's acting and story a lot, and the conversation tree gave me a nice sense of freedom in relation to how everything unfolded. I might consider pirating it some time in the future and playing to a point where everything is a happy rainbow of bright primary colors and tell you that you were completely right, ok?

Grandia 2 is pretty good, it's definitely worth a try. I've never played Skies of Arcadia but i've frequently heard that it's the best rpg for Dreamcast.

So I've been in posession of an Xbox 360 for the past week or so.
I binged on Oblivion for two days and finished the Dark Brotherhood questline, then quit because everything that isn't the stealth system is broken and retarded. And even then the stealth system is pretty stupid, seeing as enemies put some kind of PSYCHIC MARKER into me when they see me so that they know where I am at all times.
I played more Mass Effect and quit right after the Citidel because it's KOTOR -Star Wars +a god help us Gears of War combat system. Oh, and incredibly boring. I liked Wrex, though. If the game had been "Wrex's completely interesting adventure with lots of fun combat" I would have kept playing.
I got about halfway through Bioshock and just really missed System Shock. Admittedly there were a lot of pretty fucking cool moments, but those were taken away from by design stupidity I thought we grew out of in the 90's.
Bioshock was probably the best thing I did, which doesn't say a lot.

I don't know what you're talking about, but this is more a game about committing crimes, rather than fighting them.
Crime fighter 2 is a 2d crime game that was poorly made, then poorly translated from German to English(Hence the English name "Crime Fighter". I think it was supposed to translate to something along the line of street fighter, i.e. in street fighter you don't fight the street.) with graphics reminiscent of 1995.
You commit crimes by either robbing a bank, "organize" cars, even stealing children from a local park. You can then either ransom the kids or sell them to a shop for child labor. When you start out you can't always strongarm your way out of situation so you have to raise your stats. Sometimes if you try stealing a car, the owner might be there who will fight you. I've fought Rambo, Trapper Joe, Granny with a Machine gun, Little kid with Machine gun, and Al Capone.
If you try robbing a bank you have to click on an up and down button till you hear a certain chime on 3 parts of the safe. Only thing is the correct chime sounds a lot like the default chime. This game will blow you away with its terribleness but it is worth playing. Which I am again.

The thing with STALKER is it seems like it was on the cusp of being great but then fell just short. It's a very atmospheric and original game with tons of interesting stuff going on but the developers seemed to have forgotten to get the basics really solid before moving onto the fancy stuff. Specifically I felt the combat didn't work very well for a lot of the game.
Definitely worth playing though.

I think it's going to be good. STALKER was GSC GW's first go at an FPSRPG so it was bound to be a little rough around the edges. Now that they've got the experience of the first game under their belt they should be much better prepared to pull out the stops and produce a proper triple A title.
The new graphics stuff they're doing looks nice too.

I was reading about clear sky. Holy crap, time to dream of new parts.
As for S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and every other game released after 2003 for that matter, do not favor me. It was fun while I was at 15fps without too much skipping. Reminds me of a Fallout FPS. Then when I reach the Garbage, shit gets bad.
Also, before Stalker got released, it just seemed like they were cutting shit left and right. It feels half finished.
MetalMilitia
Jul 9th, 2008, 08:53 PM
Yeah they basically wasted YEARS on stupid features that never made the cut. At one stage they said that during the nights you'd have to barricade yourself inside a building to avoid being killed while you slept - you had to sleep regularly or you'd die or something. There was also all this weird stuff with the blowouts that never actually made the final game.
