If you are going for the ally achievements (which give you character bonuses) you pretty much have to do everything in a continue with that character in your party. Can't mix it up at all really. Counts side stuff as well. At 870/1000 of the achievements but haven't played it since my 3rd finish on insanity. I can easily get the 50pts and grind to 60 with one of my 3 finished careers but the last 80pts is for 4 ally achievements... meaning another 2 FULL playthroughs to get them all. Don't really feel like beating it another 2 times at this point.

Loved the game though. Hope to see more good stuff from Bioware during the transition.

Uhhhh, you DO know that there is a "happy ending" to the game, don't you? And not only the mutation one? It involves kicking mutant-army ass, so if you haven't gotten that ending, you haven't REALLY beaten the game yet.

At the moment, I'm playing CoD4 on Veteran, which is simply hellish if you haven't tried it yet, but I'm about 3/4 through. I'm also playing Age of Wonders 2: Shadow Magic on the side and I've started a new game in Baldur's Gate 2 with a shitload of mods.

The game itself was okay. Really good at some spots, really annoying at others, but anyone who calls it the greatest RPG ever is trying to justify laying down $150 for it aside from collection reasons, wants everyone who can't afford it to be jealous, and/or simply off their rocker.

Fallout 1, Arcanum, and I just completely finished Twilight Princess on the Wii.

My preferred acronym for fallout 1 and 2 is C*RPG, or just RPG. Calling it western is so odd...you don't see everyone calling an RPG from Japan or Korea an eRPG, do you?

*It's on the computer, so "c" works out pretty well.

Splatterhouse is just gory. The second and third ones are also gory, but have better gameplay value and better looking gore. However, they have the same driving plot line so I consider Splatterhouse 3 more of an expansion of 2. I guess that's just me being finicky. Though, having your evil mask tell you to save your girlfriend from the same house in two games is a little repetitive, despite the crazy mutant mode and time limits in number 3 (I guess having that little kid tacked on counts as an extra story element...but whatever).

How many games do you guys usually play at once? This question is mostly directed at GW but normal people can answer too.

Esuohlim, that happens to me sometimes too. My advice to you, would be to simply fight your way through this tedious part, because it might get better later again. Sometimes all it takes is a half hour, and suddenly you're motivated again. Unless of course, you're simply tired of the game mechanics in every way 'cause there's no variety, and then you might as well give up.

Now to your question: It varies. Sometimes only one, sometimes as many as 4. I usually have one main game though, playing others a bit on the side. Some games I play sporadically. You know, nothing goes over a good round of worms for example. Mhhmmm...I gotta play some Worms again...now where did I put that CD...

I also just realized that I hadn't quite finished Mafia yet, and seeing how I've only got 2 levels left, I might as well finish it, even though I thinks it's way overhyped by most people.

Not lately, though, cuz everything I've started playing in the past month I've hated to death for some reason or another and quit.

Currently, my CONQUESTS IN PROGRESS are as follows:
The Longest Journey
Fallout
Earthbound Zero
Super Mario Galaxy
ActRaiser
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Normally I play way more stuff at a time than this, but the computer I got stuck with after mine exploded is a horrendous piece of shit that has problems running NES emulators, and since most of what I'm playing these days are PC games I'm really SOL at the moment.

Grossenschwamm
Feb 11th, 2008, 10:33 PM
I'll always play Arcanum and Bladur's Gate 2. It's just that there's so much variety in how you can play the game, and there's an option to make combat real-time or turn-based, as opposed to Fallout 1 and 2 constantly in turn based combat.
Don't get me wrong, both Fallouts are great games, and have a great deal of variety and replay value as well. They're made by the same team that made Arcanum!
Another game that's good, despite massive bugs and glitches;
Vampire, the Masquerade; Bloodlines.
It's a complex game, but it's easy to pick up. It came out back in '04, but it didn't run well unless you had a computer that was good by '06 standards.
Also, I tend to play up to four games at once, in a staggered rotation.
At one point, I was playing Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, Arcanum, and Half Life 2. I'd play each one for about two days, then switch to another for two days, then take a gaming break, and continue the pattern over until each game was done. I guess it's like an exercise regimen, but you don't get in shape and your eyes are the only thing that's sore at the end of the day...

Ah, and Guitar Woman, I'm guessing your sig is part of a Metroid comic? That looks like Ridley.

I can play upwards of four, but only if they're the same genre. For instance, right now I'm playing Bioshock, the Orange Box, and Halo 3. I bought Audiosurf on steam last night. For anyone who doesn't already know, it's a puzzle/racing/rhythm game where the music you choose from your computer is converted into the track your race on. It's fun, simple, and addictive like any good casual game should be, but I'm honestly amazed at how well the game interprets the music you pick. I was expecting to be disappointed there, like it would only interpret from the volume or pitch or whatever like Media Player, but it actually delivers an excelent representation of a song's mood and movement at any given point in the song.

Yeah me too. I just played the first single-player mission last night. I was kind of drunk at the time but I don't remember being impressed.

I'll give it another go today - hopefully the multi player will be good.

EDIT:

Fuck this game is frustrating. For a start the server browser is the worst pile of shit in existence. Every time it adds another server to the list it automatically jumps to the bottom of the page which is just fucking annoying. Furthermore half the servers it finds don't work for some reason.
When you finally do get in game the game freezes every 2 minutes for about 5 seconds despite being completely fluid the rest of the time.
I really wish I'd pirated this game prior to spending the ~60 dollars it cost in the Steam store.

Yeah I heard that the Download version has some issues. I got the retail DVD version, and so far it works fine for me. Try lowering the "foliage" in the video option maybe that would help.

I wish there are offline bots in the game because recently I just found out the full game is more unbalanced than the beta. The drones take more damage, you can shoot grenade launchers up close without fear of splash damage. You can't use airstrikes where you wanted anymore and light machineguns are more accurate than the Assault rifle. Things were so much better in the Beta.

I'm playing JA2, with fan patch 1.13, since it's a pain in the ass to play without it. So far it's pretty cool, though kinda easy. That's probably my own fault, since I set it on easy, but it just starts pretty hard in my opinion, and then lightens up. That's it at the moment, though I'll probably be playing Crysis soon, if everything goes according to plan.

Edit: Okay, it's not gonna be as easy I though it would be, since I just found out that mines, your only reliable income, dry up after a while, which I did NOT KNOW. I'm gonna have to hurry the fuck up to take another mine. Fuck.

Right so I've sorted out my frame rate issues by lowering the settings dramatically. The single player is actually pretty fun, if a little too easy.

Multi-player is aright but I still have a few problems, the most annoying being that 90% of people use the grenade launcher as their primary weapon on urban maps. This wouldn't be so bad if you had less ammunition or if it was less accurate.

One thing I do like about the game is all the destructible objects in the maps. The physics overall are well done.

They should also add a minimum arming range for grenade launchers just like in BF2 so it will be useless on close quarters.

snag #1: it has got oldfashioned cd copy protection, that was designed for win 98 and therefore CAN NOT SEE THE DISC WHATSOEVER. fixd by using a nocd crack.

snag #2: tries to display the eidos logo and crashes to desktop- i hear the sound for about a half second, but see nothing. i have tried all sorts of combinations of compatibility modes/etc, atm i am downloading new gfx card drivers to see if that helps (probly not though, since it does it in software accelerated mode too)

unfortunately, i don't think i can do anything about the last problem: this game sucks

it's got resident evil tank-style controls for the non-combat parts, and in order to save you have to collect "magic rings" (cough cough ink ribbons) and there's a limited number of them and you also can use them to buy hints when you're stuck, so what inevitably happens is in the sake of being frugal i will not save when i really should and then get killed/the game crashes and i have to restart (THIS JUST HAPPENED BTW)

although the story IS interesting, and i think i've actually gotten farther this time, the interface and mechanics are just so off-putting

maybe if i had it for DC and could feel more secure that it's not gonna crash (and so that the shit control scheme could be justified) i'd be enjoying it more, idk

oh ps for some reason when you're in the inventory screen it gets incredibly unresponsive, sometimes you have to push a button two or three times before it responds

Guitar Woman
Mar 5th, 2008, 11:04 AM
I was always able to save without gathering the magic rings, sort of like how in Tomb Raider 3 it says you have to gather Save Crystals to record your progress, but you really don't.

I could be wrong, it's been forevereverever since I've played. :(

I've never had problems with tank controls in any game, either, but I guess that's a big issue for some people

They actually do this the worst in the very first level. In the last half of the level, you'll be fighting all-black creatures against an all-black background. I could feel myself getting eye strain.

Thankfully, they never do it that bad again. Well, almost in one level, but that's it.

Actually, the first one IS confiscated here, so I guess the second one will be too. But luckily, we have Austria and the UK around, so we poor german gamers (living in Carebear-Country as it seems), can still get our hands on it.

Strangely though, the guys who watch over violent media and give out the ratings, confiscated (forbidden to be sold in germany) Condemned 1 and Dead Rising, but gave Assassinīs Creed a 16-Rating, which would be your "Teen" if Iīm not mistaken. Assassinīs Creed of all things.

To be fair, Assassin's Creed is so boring that you're likely to miss all the violence because you're struggling to stay awake.

But it´s a good example of how random our Rating-Guys are. The game IS pretty violent and murder IS the point of the whole thing after all. And thats normally their point. "Blah blah, violence should never be the point of the thing, blah blah bunnies and candy don´t kill people, let´s ban everything else, yadda yadda." Desperately trying to protect the youth, ignoring all other reasons for violent or problematic behaviour...*sighs* Which is okay with me, as long as I as an adult person am not...*thinks of a word*...paternalised? Which is sadly exactly what´s happening here.

My friend just showed me this game called Crime Fighter 2.0 that came out for windows in 2000. I've finally found a game so terrible it's fun. Picture Drug wars made by germany and then translated awkwardly to English. For instance you can "Organize" a car from the lot, but sometimes the owner shows up and you gunfight him. Too bad the owner is "Rambo", "Granny" or "Al Capone". You can kidnap children from a park and either ransom them or sell them for child labor. Sometimes that doesn't work because they have Tommy Guns though.

I finished Mass Effect and am going through it again as a girl this time (you can make a character that looks an awful lot like Major Kira from Deep Space Nine, I wonder if that was intentional). What they did with your characters dialog was really clever, giving your character the general tone of what your going to say through the conversation wheel rather than just spell it out for you adds a whole new layer to the dialog and makes it very difficult not to play through the game as a hardass. You have to understand how much I loved the writing in this game since if anyone asks I'll tell them Mass Effect is fantastic without bothering to tell them that the gameplay is awful. I'll only turn the difficulty down on a game if I feel the game mechanics suck and the only other game I've ever done that with is the Resident Evil REmake. Also, they're way to stingy with the autosaves.

Now, graphics comparison: I'm sure Crysis could look better if I had a PC from the future, but for what my hardware can run, and it's pretty good, UT3 beats Crysis out of the water. More time should have been spent optimizing Crysis, because as it is, it's pathetic how much hardware it needs to do what it does.
Unfortunately, being the idiot I am, I played the shit out of original UT before starting to play UT3, and despite their differences, they're still pretty damn similar at the core. So I don't actually feel like playing UT3 much at the moment, so I'll probably finish Crysis before playing UT3 much more.

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch.

This game never got the recognition it deserved. It's really fast, skillful and strategic.
I mean people say it takes skill to be good at UT or CS, which is true but at the end o fthe day you're still just pointing on the enemy and clicking. In HL2DM you actually have to consider exactly which weapon or object is best suited for the situation. So in a matter of seconds you need to look around you check for suitable grav gun objects (sinks, toilets and radiators are preferential) if none are in range switch to your best weapon for the range at which the enemy is at while simultaneously avoiding anything they throw or shoot at you.

It's just a shame it probably won't ever get updated with new official content. Most of the user maps are junk.

Well. I decided to hit up Code Veronica again, despite the fact that the last time I played it, it horribly glitched a few rooms away from the final boss.

I love that game! It was one of my favorites as a kid too. I especially remember this one time where I was in the video store with my mom and this younger kid was there with his mom. He was looking at the game, put it down, then went to tell his mom he'd like to rent it. They were a few aisles down but I heard them just fine and when they started coming back to get it, I took it for myself :D

Then when I saw him in school, I made fun of him by telling him how awesome it is.

Beavis and Butthead is fucking impossible if you don't know what you're doing. I tried it from memory and ended up forgetting about the gum under the teacher's desk and the soap in one of the bathrooms. I don't know how anyone could have finished that game without a walkthrough.

I'm back on Vegas 2's single campaign. Man, being a total bad ass rules. Forget stealth, breach doors and run in shooting! I usually keep a Scout Tactical as my secondary weapon. It's so retarded, yet so satisfying to kill somebody at close-range with a blind-fire shot from a sniper rifle.

Yeah, I remember getting about 3/4 of the ticket pieces and being totally in the dark as to how to get the rest. Also, I think you can fuck yourself over and have to start over if you don't save enough money for certain things.

I'm playing some Arcanum again, and since I for once tried to be a magick user, I am once again reminded how much magic sucks in this game early on. Especially if you wanna play in character, and as a good half-elven mage, I just don't think it's appropriate if I learn necromantic spells, which means I can't get Harm, which furthermore means I need to get stone throw, which sucks. So offensively I am fucked, defensively I am fucked, and I can only cast about 4 stone throws before I'm out of fatigue, which might kill a thug, if I'm lucky.

Being a half-ogre fighter is so much easier, but it just gets old fast. And I've been a molotov-slinging, bullet-flinging technologist so often before, and a thief too, so this was kinda my last option. Magic is just unbalanced in this game.

I'm just totally reliant on my companions, which is really lame. They do all the work, while all I can do is fall over from exhaustion after a few spells. Crap.

I am also playing Super Smash Bros Brawl whenever I can get someone to come over and play.

I'm playing Metroid Prime Hunters and Phamtom Hourglass on my new DS console. And I agree with Ant10708, it always annoying to always go back on the Ocean King temple. You always have to do it quickly before the sand of time run out of the hourglass. Most annoying parts of the game.

In GTA:SA if you put the car lifting magnet onto a car, deploy the cable as much as it will go then get into the car & drive away, the car will swing into the air. I am doing this while imagining that I am Willie & doing it for real.

Maybe including lit fireworks.
