A True Halloween Lunch: The Almighty Peanut Butter & Candy Corn Sandwich!

Peanut Butter & Candy Corn... everything a growing boy needs.

So I was making a peanut butter sandwich for lunch today (aka: "food of the gods") and noticed the bag of candy corn on the nearby counter which instantly brought back an old memory of mine. I'm sure many of you had moms who packed peanut butter sandwiches for you to take to school when you were really young. And I'm sure plenty of you have experienced the ol' peanut butter sandwich with M&M's candies pressed into it to form a happy face of some sort.

Well, seeing that bag of candy corn as I was making my peanut butter sandwich reminded me of when my mom used to make me peanut butter and candy corn sandwiches whenever Halloween was coming up. Same principle as the M&M's one... just press the candy corns right into the sandwich and chow down. While I think M&M's will always win with most people, the candy corns actually go with the peanut butter really well too. They do contain honey after all, and that's always a good match with peanut butter.

So have any of you ever had a peanut butter & candy corn sandwich? If so, what do ya think of 'em? Also, if you have any other Halloween treats from years past that you always enjoyed, let's hear 'em!

My mom would make me fluffer nutters and say the fluff was ghost ectoplasm.

Also you should wonder bread, it make's it all that better.

Wow, candy corns make a much more appropriate face than M&Ms would! Appropriate for Halloween anyhow.

I never got to experience the joys of candy and peanut butter when I was younger, but that didn't stop me from experimenting in college (didn't everyone?) and I distinctly recall that twizzlers and peanut butter went disturbingly well together, but that might just have been because I was experimenting with OTHER things at the time...

God, RoG. Where was your mom when I was a kid?

I can't complain too hard, though. Holidays always meant popcorn balls, and lots of 'em. None of that cheap, syrup-less store-bought crud either; there were treasure troves of Kero Syrup pockets in those suckers and they were buttery as Heaven itself.

I need to give my mom a call...

I've never had a peanut butter sandwich with M&M or candy corn before. I'll have to make sure to stock up next time I go to the store.

Just drinking warm red jello and pretending that it was blood on Halloween, not much else.

actually have had that before. it was good, but you gotta use the cheapest softest bread possible. delicious.

I think the recipe could be improved with the all new CANDY CORN DOTS!

danielsan4610, don't worry, I'll be reviewing all three of the Halloween Dots varieties this season when we do our big "Ultimate Guide to the Halloween Candies of 2009". That said, I'm not sure gum drops (which is what they basically are) are the best mix for a peanut butter sandwich. Already picked up two big boxes of the Ghosts and Blood-Orange Bats Halloween Dots though, check 'em out:

I just love the design of the big boxes alone and want to hold onto 'em forever. Here's a quick look at the mini boxes including the candy corn Halloween dots:

Tootsie clearly has their shit together this year - even though the Mystery Ghost Halloween Dots STILL don't glow in the dark despite my repeated requests. One o' these years they're gonna get the message.

I am convinced that candy corn is the work of the devil. Such a nasty, wax-like non-food should never be eaten EVER. As a mattor of fact I take Lewis Black's stance that candy corn hasn't been manufactured since the 30's and that all of the corn we get now is the original corn, retrived by the company from the garbage after halloween.

Have you seen the newest flavors of Candy Corn? I found some Caramel Apple Candy Corn and regular Caramel Candy Corn at my local grocery store. I haven't tried them yet, but they look pretty promising.

My mom would buy a bag of "fun" sized candies and put them in my lunches all the time back in elementary school. Good memories...

I am thinking of trying a peanut sandwich with m+m's, since I am not a fan of candy corn. Hopefully it will be delicious!

HowardC, hehe I did love that Lewis Black bit, but I actually LOVE candy corn. Candy corn and the Mellowcreme Pumpkins are both extremely addictive. I always end up eating them until the bag is near empty and I'm starting to feel sick. And even then, I still want to eat more. That's how much I like candy corn.

Kakumei, yep! I actually reviewed them in our "Ultimate Guide to the Halloween Candies" at one point. I think they was the 2006 or 2007 list somewhere... it's hard to recall which.

sebastiankirchoff93, you can't go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter. Always a good combination.

What kind of sick, sadistic people were my parents? I never had a smiling sandwich! Arrgh! MUST HAVE NOW!

I'm also wondering... could glow-in-the-dark Dots possibly create glow-in-the-dark poos? That could be awesome. And has anyone tried to put the ghost Dots under blacklight? They look like they may glow under that. But I haven't tried it.

When I first saw the photo of this article I thought that Re was the one who came up with the idea.

this might sound kinda weird to the rest of you but grilled cheese always reminds me of halloween.

when we were kids we'd always be in such a rush to wanna go trick or treating that my parents had to make the quickest dinner possible and it just always seemd we had grilled cheese on halloween.

its awesome how something so simple can stick with you the rest of your life.

I found through sheer stupidity that candy corn makes a great pizza topping. But then again, I put strawberry jelly on hot dogs so I might just have bad taste.

User avatar

had some mellowcreme pumpkins yesterday, delicious..

my parents used to take the seeds after we gutted the pumpkins, clean them up and salt them and then bake them

i've seen that the brand david that makes sunflower seeds now also sells pumpkin seeds, which is cool but i haven't tried them.

that's kind of my association with halloweens of my youth

Well, we had a Halloween Cookie Cutter set and my mom used to cut them up all through the month of October. And after carving pumpkins we always had roasted pumpkin seeds. I used to carry my lunch to school on Halloween week in a McDonald's Happy Meal Halloween pail. I actually think I still have some of them in a closet somewhere.

Also, haven't picked up my requisite 5 bags of Brach's Mellowcreme pumpkins and candy corn. Mmm..
Can't wait to see what's up for this years Halloween on i-mockery.

picked up a bag of autumn mix today, never had mellowcreme pumpkins or indian candy corn before

indian corn's ok,slightly better than the standard stuff at first but got unappetizing quickly

the pumpkins are pretty decent, although i figured they'd be something other than what they ended up being

doubt i'll try them in a sandwich

All I have to say is that candy corn is the most disgusting food ever made.

I concur with Rufus, and would like to add that i find the picture disconcerting.

User avatar

LadyMage on 09/13/2009 10:13 pm

they need to make a candy corn made of the tip only, that is my fave part of it (I am weird)

halloween we didn't have special treats per say but then you are talking to the girl that broke her mcdonalds glow in the dark witch bag trick or treating one year and then having enough candy until following halloween, even after giving it way to her friends and teachers at school

Hrm, I never got a peanut butter/ candy corn sandwich when i was a kid cause my mom's a dietitian, just tiny boxes of raisins. So now, as an act of rebellion, I've got a huge sweet tooth. Ever had a marshmallow fluff/nutella sandwich? Nectar of the gods.

I'll go ahead and agree with Doctor Allosaurus, Candy Corn is a good pizza topping, it's just best to wait until after the pizza's cooked to put 'em on. Also, anyone else think that (Chicken in a Biscut) crackers, Milk Duds and Easy Cheese go disturbingly well together?

Guest

Price (Guest) on 09/30/2009 3:07 pm

DAMN, that's delicious! Wish mom would've whipped that together for me when I was little.

Forget the kids, PB&J with a little candy corn is a welcomed morning breakfast anytime of the year. Not sure if my teeth would agree though!
