I-Mockery’s 20th Anniversary.

It's I-Mockery's 20th anniversary. Thank you for all the wonderful years!

Hard to believe, but it's I-Mockery's 20th anniversary, and I wanted to share some thoughts with all of you about the occasion. Please click to continue reading:

I've always believed in celebrating big milestones, and while this was certainly never the way I intended to be spending the 20th anniversary of I-Mockery.com, I still want to recognize it. TWENTY YEARS. Sure, it's technically been around even longer since the site started out on Geocities back in the day, but I can't believe what was just intended to be a fun hobby has lasted for two decades. I know I haven't updated the site since Re passed, but I love looking back on all the wonderful times we had because of it. As a guy who used to write his own photocopied print 'zines to distribute them in school and local music shops, I never imagined my writing would reach an audience beyond the town I grew up in. I-Mockery opened so many doors for me, and I'm forever grateful for all the amazing experiences that presented themselves as a result of it.

My intention with I-Mockery was always simple: to create a place of my own where I could house all my stream-of-consciousness creative efforts, and share them with likeminded people who wanted to enjoy some escapism for a while. In-depth features, comics, videos, blog entries, tributes, original video games, pictorials, reviews, stories, becoming a b-movie & horror host, celebrating my favorite holidays, and more - I-Mockery was home for it all. I always worked on this site simply out of love and an innate need to create. I looked forward to it, even when I knew the workload for some of the larger pieces would be a huge endeavor, because I knew the end result would be its own reward.

It may sound corny, but I always considered it an honor to be such a big part of everyone's annual Halloween festivities. When I started the first annual "Two Months of Halloween" celebration, I never expected to meet so many wonderful weirdos who simply couldn't get enough of the spookiest of seasons. Now it seems like everybody is celebrating Halloween for a full two months (or longer) each year, and it's a great thing that always puts a smile on my face. It's a tradition we built together, and I love seeing so many people having fun with it in their own ways.

I-Mockery also introduced me to so many brilliant people over the years whom I'm lucky to call friends; being able to collaborate with many of them on countless endeavors was just an added bonus. Honestly, I can't thank all those talented people who've lent their time, energy, and creativity to my wide array of projects over the years enough. I truly believe we created a site that was unlike anything else out there, and I couldn't have done it without them.

Additionally, I want to thank ALL OF YOU who've stuck with me over the years on this absurdist ride. Having an audience who has been so enthusiastic and supportive for so long means more than you can possibly know. Writing can be an incredibly lonely vocation (especially since I did the majority of mine in the wee hours of the night), but knowing that I'd be hearing from so many of you whenever I posted some new content online always kept me going. Never underestimate how even a little bit of feedback can truly help fuel creative types.

Most importantly, I married Re, the love of my life, shortly after starting I-Mockery, and it's nice to be able to look back on our many laughs and adventures together featured on the site from over the years. Whether it was writing about our big road trip move from the east to west coast over a decade ago, sharing our amazing overseas adventures, or simply sitting down on the couch to record ourselves playing a song together, I'm so glad to have all those wonderful memories carved into digital stone to revisit whenever the mood strikes. I just wish Re was still here to make new memories with me.

I still have to figure out my place in a world without her — and there's no way to convey just how heartbreakingly difficult the process has been, and will continue to be. But I'm trying to keep moving forward in honor of her.

I know this post has the air of a goodbye, but I assure you, it isn't. Whether I resume writing for I-Mockery in the future, or simply leave it online as an archive for all to enjoy, is something I have yet to decide on. I still have a long road ahead of me, and more special places to bring Re's remains to, so please continue to bear with me. It hasn't even been two full years since she passed. I'd love to be spending I-Mockery's 20th Anniversary as I had always intended - by kicking off another huge "Two Months of Halloween" celebration on September 1st, but that's just not in the cards for me right now, as I'm sure all of you can understand. Right now, I can only live vicariously through you. That said, I've left the decorations up on I-Mockery so you can still enjoy all the years of Halloween content in the archives.

So, I hope you all have a terrific time celebrating the Halloween season, even though I won't be a part of it. It's the best time of the year, so run through a pile of crunchy fall leaves, stuff your face with seasonal candies, bathe in all things pumpkin spice, wear day-glo monster masks, watch cheesy horror flicks, and just soak it all in.

Lastly, if it's not too much to ask, I'd love to hear from all of you. Maybe share some of your favorite I-Mockery memories from over the years... or simply drop a comment down below to say hi.

Again, thanks for welcoming me into your lives for the past two decades. Thank you for so many fantastic years. It's truly been a privilege, and I hope I can one day resume entertaining you again.

With love, gratitude, and flickering jack-o-lanterns,

-Roger

p.s.: While I won't be creating any new content this season, you can still pick up our Halloween video game, Grave Chase. It was released just before I was hit with that awful tragedy, but I'm still very proud of it. The game is a love letter to all things Halloween, and takes place over the 31 days of October. It's available for PC, Mac, and Linux, so it'll work on whatever you have. Please give it a try!

Hey Roger, It's Cody Magnuson, glad to see your still looking forward to everything. I'm ready and prepared for the Halloween season, it's going to be great, along with the rest of the holidays this year. I'll be sure to check in on you again in no time and let you know what I'm up to. I'm also very happy that you've reached 20 years of Halloween on I-Mockery.

Roger, I raised my son on your “two months” of Halloween celebration. He’s 22 now. Thank you for always making the season special. I just wanted you to know my family and I have always enjoyed your content, the things you shared, and celebrating the season.
As hard as it must be, thank you for your updates, and letting us know you're ok.
Simply, and with much love to you, and Marie, thank you.

Happy to hear from you, sir! It's crazy to think it's been 20 years already; that's quite the milestone these days. I'll be busy getting my house ready for the season and might sneak back here from time to time to check out some of the old articles for a good nostalgia kick.

You're a champion sir. A wonderfully creative and remarkable writer. Thanks for being the cause of me wasting hours on that monster builder game, lol. I also loved your Halloween candy reviews, all of which were so very thorough.

Thanks for everything. Seriously. You're not forgotten and are in all of our thoughts. When I'm celebrating Halloween this year, you'll be on my mind.

Good luck and all the best to you.

Haha, it's been so long I can't even remember the original handle I used to use while talking with all the old main writers! I remember your first fun Pak! Doorways wishing you the best and feeling for you and your journey every time this year. I hope to continue to have you as part of my life! Lots of love!

I remember stumbling upon this site when I was in college (around 2003) and reading the rom hack reviews. I still say “bybus slago” from time to time and think of the article.

I didn’t even know the site was still here until Edmond McMillian retweeted your tweet.

Thanks for the great memories growing up!

Been coming to this site since I had graduated high school. I'm now 37 and I still come back for the spooky movie spotlights and the Halloween collection. This site is one of the few things that still brings me joy. Whenever I'm having a shit day I come here, read an article and feel a whole lot better. So many youtubers, web creators and other personalities have all been inspired by this place in one way or another. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go crank up the Jack-O-Juke before my power goes out.

Hey man, been a reader a long time. It's nice to hear from you again. It's so strange that you moved to California over 10 years ago. I was in high school, and now I'm in my own place as an adult.

Rainbow Puke and Secret Santa were always great times. And the rom hacks were always fantastic. The Slurpee Thievery Gag still makes me crack up.

We love you man. Say hello again soon!!

Yo Rog! Always a pleasure to see a new post. I've always been a champion of your excellent content...especially Doc Mock's Movie Mausoleum which at the time was flat out appointment viewing!

I love a good laugh and some of my heartiest guffaws are because that wonderful program. I remember Re giving me a shout out on the message boards once (parroting my reference to Stamos as "A Sexy Piece of Beefcake"). That made my week and with that mere acknowledgment made me feel in some extreme small way I was a part of this thing I loved.

You are one of the few peeps who inspired me to create something for myself. Find that labor of love and jump in with both feet. This led to me creating a podcast that I have steadily been pumping out weekly for nearly a decade. It has changed forms throughout the years (at the moment it is focused in finding the greatest song of the 2000's) but it is my baby and it is something I look forward to recording every week.

I still check in here for old times sake on occasion (usually to introduce a newbie to your amazing wares) and I never fail to smile every time. Thank you for being one of my all time favorite personalities on the gosh darn web.

Thanks for everything.

It's funny. I had remembered that halloween season started on September 1st so I decided to check I-Mockery for the hell of it. I never would have expected this post but I am so glad to be here reading it.

20 years huh? That's a bit more than 2/3rds of my life and I've been browsing on I-Mockery for nearly as long as I've had an internet connection.

RoG, thank you so much for everything. I remember my older brother reading your story about the Pepperidge Farm fair and cooking with Soda Popinski out loud to me and actually crying from laughter. I remember taking your word as gospel for every retro game and horror movie recommendation. I remember getting every single one of my classmates to start playing Trick-Or-Treat Adventure Quest during our computer classes.

This year I scheduled a week off from work to celebrate Halloween and my birthday, I had planned to spend that week with a friend drinking and watching spooky movies. I'm grateful that this site is still around to recommend fantastic thrillers that I can share with others.

I know it's been hard for you this past year. Whatever you choose to do; I think I speak for everyone when I say: We love you and will support you always.

Hey, Rog. Dropping in to comment for the first time, just wanted to tell ya how much fun I've had reading through all the editorials, features, etc. since all the way back in 2001 when I discovered your site. Much love to ya, and I wish you well.

Lots and lots of hugs. Your two months of Halloween got me through some really dark times when my depression was eating my brain. It's better now that we figured out the cause (hormonal crap).

I can tall a huge difference in how your writing sounds compared to your previous posts. I'm glad that maybe the darkness is receding a bit for you. I hope someday you will be able to see what sunshine looks like again, and that all the beautiful colors in the world will be bright once more. Those are the first two things I noticed when I finally crawled out of my deep dark depression oubliette.

We are here if you need us, and there are lots of shoulder to cry on, and lots of arms to give you warm hugs too.

Hey Rog, great to hear from you!

Congratulations on 20 years with the site! I haven't been here from the very beginning but I've been a reader for quite a few years. Your annual 2 months of Halloween was a big part of making me appreciate this time of year more, and I've gone from thinking of Halloween as one day to considering it an entire season. To this day, every time I see a new Halloween themed treat in the store I think about how you risked your pancreas every year to bring us your huge review of each season's candy. I did miss all your Halloween content last year
(although I completely understand and support your reasons for mot doing it), but I still get a kick out of re-reading your previous spooky articles. After 2 decades heaven knows there's more than enough to last the whole season. I hope this post finds you well, and whether you decide to take up writing for the site again or life takes you in some other direction, I look forward to reading I-Mockery for another 20 years!

Roger - I've been lurking on the site the better part of those 20 years and really want you to know how much it has meant to me. Refreshing the website on 9/1 and seeing the flashing pumpkin always brings a smile to my face.

I know you've been through a lot lately but know that you have made an impact on people and can continue to do so.

It's hard to pick a single article but I always crack up at the One Dollar Pirate and the Rip-Off Costumes articles. Look out! It's "Overalls" the killer!

Anyway, congratulations on 20 years. Take as much time to heal as possible. We'll be waiting here for you.

Hey Roger,

I stumbled on i-mockery over ten years ago. I don't even remember what I was searching for but it led me to your Twinkie oven review and I haven't looked back since!

Your product reviews were always my favourite, the old-school "gifs" were hilarious, as was the writing!

Oh, and the haunted house you built in your apartment with the really cheap decorating kit! "It's Frankenstein!! or, is that the hulk? No, no, that's Frankenstein!"

I'm glad you have such a huge archive of content on here, I've re-read a good chunk of it over the years, it always makes me chuckle. Thanks so much for keeping the site active, you assembled an amazing team of writers and the quality has never diminished.

Make sure you take the time you need for yourself, grief is a complex beast and it's so easy to think you need to be at a certain level of functioning by a certain time. We're all here for you, Roger.

I discovered the site back in 2006 while killing time working at a call center. It brought me hours of joy then and I still take people to the "Cool as Ice" review, and the Nintendo merch reviews. Also, the annual candy review was one of my favorites.

You make the internet a better place. (and that is saying something).

It's so nice to hear from you Rog :) Like many others I stumbled across your site more than a decade ago and founf myself coming back regularly to read classic articles or look for new content. Your site has brought a lot of joy to my life over the years, and you and Re both deserve praise for that. When I learned of her passing I was heartbroken, and when I tried to leave this message on your past posts, comments had already been disabled...

I don't know if this is weird, as I've never met you, or communicated with you, or even left a comment here before, but I find myself thinking about you and worrying about you on a regular basis. I won't go into great detail, but I've experienced something similar to what you are dealing with, and it never stops hurting... but it does get easier. It gets better. You already know this, but you were so lucky to have your soulmate, however briefly... this kind of love isn't something everyone gets to experience, and from how you write about her, how you interacted with her, it was clearly that kind of love. Just cherish her memory as you are doing already and know that you'll see her again someday.

I am second-guessing submitting this because it could come off as weird or corny, but what the hell. We all love you Rog, and for every comment here there are a thousand more people who love you, who cried for you, who prayed for you, and I am one of them.

It sounds selfish but I do hope you continue to work on this site, but only when you're ready. There are too many wacky Halloween products, 80s relics, and other pop culture oddities that need your take on them to give it up...

Anyway. We love you Rog. Stay strong and know that we are here for you :)

Congrats on the two decade mark, Rog! I’m sorry it can’t be under better circumstances but you’ve built a monument in a corner of the internet that has stood the test of time. I used to be here frequently and rediscovered the site recently and rereading all the old posts and catching up on newer stuff brings a smile to my face.

Best wishes moving forward.

I knew this site back in 2007 when I was doing an internship. It was a hard time for me because I was not the most skilled talking with people and had the pressure of doing it right because I had to help my mother putting food on the table. I had stomach problems because of the pressure and lost a lot of weight.

I honestly don't remember what I googled it to get here (I think the first piece I read here was the "Cho Aniki" one) but it was an escape from those hard months. The internship was for three months but was let go after two and was one of the happiest news of my life. I used that experience to learn and grow, took this insane page with me and has been on my favorite folder ever since.

Currently I'm a product manager but still remember those times every time I visit this website; however on these occasions I smile instead of being sad.

All the way from the Dominican Republic, thank you for the laughs and work you have done on this site. You never know in what ways you change someone's life. Hope you're proud of your achievements and that you find peaceful times on your time still on this earth.

Regards

Roger, I have been using your content to teach my English as a second language students for years. From my time in Prague to now back stateside, you have provided a ton of educational material beyond your expectations. Now I am part of a podcast called Sci-fi Malady, where we discuss all things sci-fi. October is or horror sci-fi month and you have contributed much to our content in the form of suggestions. If you have the time, please listen and leave a comment for some tips how to make us better.
Also, your comments since Re's passing have helped me, so thanks.

Rog,
It was GREAT to see an update from you Man! So, the last few years of my military career I worked law enforcement / Security Control for a large Air Force installation. Mon to Wed were SLOGS on 2nd shift, just absolute boredom hell. Trapped in a small, 8 by 8 room waiting for the phone to ring (if there was in flight emergency or a distress call on base) and MAN did I spend hours upon hours upon hours on I-Mockery. All the cards, and movies and updates and amazing times, games and grab bags.
In short, I cant thank you enough for saving my sanity through some of those boring, 12 hour shifts. I really cant thank you enough or express how much I appreciate your hard work, your talent, or express how much joy and laughter you've brought me personally since I found this site in 2009.
Best to you my friend, do what you gotta do.

Christian

I loved reading the comic reviews on the site, especially US-1 and Warrior. The former needs to be a trade paperback, dammit!

Also, I always looked forward to the Halloween and Christmas content, but hey, I can look back on the old stuff. It's long enough to make me nostalgic, and what's more nostalgic than Halloween?

So many i-Mockery memories in the 15-ish years since I discovered the site. Laughing my ass off at the absurdity of hacked ROMs, enjoying strange movies via just-the-best-bits reviews featuring animated gifs and audio clips, receiving my Pickleman comic with a personalized gag written on the cover and proudly slapping the shiny i-Mockery sticker on my laptop...
The greatest time, though, has to be Doc Mock's Movie Mausoleum. I've never felt so connected to reality through the internet as watching live and contributing quips and gags via the chat (curated expertly by Re as Miss D.), actually getting a few read on-air... Toby Huss told several unique behind-the-scenes stories about Pete and Pete and King of the Hill as the result of looking at my fanart!! I didn't win that contest, but I FELT like a winner. Staying up late had never been so great, it was like some mad sleepover.
Without i-Mockery, I might never have given Boo Berry another chance and found out I loved it. I probably wouldn't burst into inappropriate laughter every time I see Wilford Brimley's walrus-ass mug on TV. And I DEFINITELY wouldn't know how to use the three seashells.
It has to be really hard when a holiday season all about getting jolly with the macabre becomes a time when we actually lost someone so important, but in a way that's kind of helpful? Reminds us to take that 'honoring the dead thing' halfway seriously once in a while. Because basically most of the cool people are dead. I think we can say that safely. But they got all their cooling in while they were alive, and we have to try to do the same and carry that on.

I'll keep you in my prayers, Roger. I've never commented before, but I've enjoyed your writing on this site for several years now. I especially remember the article on Candy Corn Oreos, which I now use as a classroom assignment. This year they have maple flavor. Try it! I've always wanted to comment on your stuff, maybe even debate on some opinions. But now, obviously, would not be the time. I look forward to you writing again.

For years I left comments under the user name Istoleyerkeys (because I am a weirdo and thought it was funny). I've also left a few drunken comments and bone headed emails on here and for that I apologize and hope that in the end it wasn't too off-putting or inappropriate. That aside, I have been a follower of I-mockery since 2000 when a high school friend came up to me in the school library while I was parusing a site (about psychedelic mushrooms of all things) and said "check out this site I-mockery. I know a guy that contributes to it sometimes (I believe he knew Max Burbank at least at the time if not still). I have been a regular to I-mockery since, and to this day consider September 1st every year to be the unofficial start of my favorite season, because of the I-mockery celebration basically giving me the excuse to do so. I remember watching for the new pixel pals comic, contributing the most bizarre inquiries to Dr. Bactine that I could possibly think of, and trying each new game as it came out, including Grave Chase. I have read each editorial probably a half dozen times at least over the years. I watched the site like a hawk back in 2015 when I was battling cancer because, well, I-mockery and facebook were my only connections to the outside world on days when I was recovering from surgeries or chemotherapy and too sick to get out of bed. The content of this site will always have a special (if not absurdly weird) place in my heart and mind, and Rog, as I have said before, while I hope you continue to create and share those creations in some form in the future, I will understand if you take a different path. But as far as I-mockery and its content, I hope that at the very least it is maintained as an archive of awesomeness if nothing else. It represents a lasting mark you and Re made on this existence and this earth, which is an accomplishment not many people can claim when all is said and done. Thank you.

It feels like another lifetime ago when I first stumbled upon I-Mockery. I think it was through one of the flash games, or maybe I'm Gonna Beat Pac-Man: smack dab in the middle of both my awkward teen years and my NES collecting phase. While I was always more partial to the writing and layout of X-Entertainment (now Dino Drac) I-Mockery's consistently polished look and obvious, loving attention to detail simply can't be outdone by any other "nostalgia sites" of it's ilk. You put so much work into every aspect of the site, and it shows.

Without getting too long winded, I noticed you mentioned zines you did back in school: did you scan any of them, and if not, could you? Believe it or not, tangible xerox zines still exist in various incarnations today, and despite being born at least yen years late to their heyday, I've always found them pretty novel (no pun intended).

Back when I got my first computer in 2002, my tween-aged self was obsessed with retro gaming. In my internet travels, I stumbled on the "classic game reviews" section of i-mockery. I was like a kid in a candy store. I laughed my ass off at Sexual Moments in Video Game History (particularly MAD TIGER BALLS!) I visited the site religiously for years. I-mockery Halloween became tradition for me and my little brother. We had the good fortune to bump into you at the 7-11 turned Kwik-E-Mart back when The Simpsons Movie premiered. I still have some of the stickers you gave me. I can't thank you enough for the joy you've brought me over the years. You, Re, and the rest of the gang played a big part in forming the wonderful weirdo I am. I wish you the happiest of spooky seasons, and all the peace and healing the universe can muster. Take good care, Rog.

RoG...

I don't even remember when I started viewing this website. Funny story, in 2012 I got in trouble for NEVER doing my accounting and just looking up Halloween sections and Rom Hack reviews. When I heard, you know, what happened, also how flash ends in 2020 I try like hell to archive this website in the prospect of you would shut i-mockery down, even from the wayback machine. So for the past 3 months I have been right-clicking (save page as) urgently. Unless you already have this website on a nice little .zip file or something. The memories I had, ranging from the Abobo's Big Adventure countdown (I waited) to Bionic Chainsaw Pogo Gorilla have made this website a memory that is different from watching a favorite YouTuber. It's like an old home...

Thanks for 20 years, Rog!! We don't really "do" Halloween here in Kangaroo land so i-Mockery has always been synonymous with Halloween for me. I truly regret never getting around to ordering one of those Halloween grab packs you
put together for a few years, but hopefully it'll be something I'll finally get around to in the future :-)

As for my favorite i-Mockery content over the years, I loved Domo-kun (which introduced me to the site), the Monkey Island stuff, those absolutely massive choose your own adventure novels you and the main contributers used to do, Doc Mock and the road trip imagefest as you mentioned which taught me everything I needed to know (and more) about 21st Century Americana. Oh yeah and Rainbow Puke!!

Here's to another 20!?

I think I found this site maybe 10 years ago or so. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday, but it always saddened me that the concept just seemed to fade as you got older and all you were left with was a bunch of nostalgia. Something about this site fed my sense of nostalgia, but also made me feel like there was still something left in the halloween season for me to enjoy. I feel like that's almost metaphoric of getting older. You lose a lot of things you love; carefree playing with toys in the backyard with friends, summers that held the promise of endless adventure, halloweens that the whole world seemed to revolve around. You find meaning again in the smallest of details that not only conjure the memory of what used to be, but also give you something new to look forward to. Something as simple as halloween candy gives me a reason to go out and enjoy the halloween spirit in some real way, not just a nostalgic recap in my head.
I think the biggest appeal to this site was it provided people with a way to feel connected to things in some real, tangible way that we thought we lost when we were younger, and for a long time only existed in our heads.

I've been a fan since I was... probably younger than I should have been to be enjoying this content, but nonetheless. It was a huge part of my early exposure to the internet, and it's downright strange to think of how much my sense of humor and love of the strange and obscure has been influenced by I-Mockery. Whether it was a retrospective of some goofy old movie or TV show, a travelogue of a visit to some roadside attraction or other, or just you and your friends fucking around in monster costumes or pillow forts, it was all just so much fun. And of course, Greatest Horror Movie Moments introduced me to my favorite movie, Wild Zero, which I then spread around to pretty much my entire group of friends. I honestly can't thank you enough. Even if this was the final post on this website, it would be an amazing run... but I'm glad it isn't.

I probably would not take as much delight in the weird and obscure if I had not discovered this site when I was maybe too young for it. I also must thank you for letting this Minnesotan gamer and scaredy-cat live vicareously through your E3 and Halloween Horror Nights albums. Actually, now that I think of it, I think my ability to appreciate all the work that goes into horror despire not having the stomach for it probably stems from this site, and your deep love for the genre. Either way, I have so many great memories from this site, be it articles, games, or Dock Mock. I'm so glad to have been here for some of this site's history, and am eternally grateful for the impact it's had on my life

Roger, for years I enjoyed your site for the fun novelty it provided during Halloween (my favorite holiday), as well as off the wall items you would post through the year. I just wanted to take a moment to say I wish you all the best and we all are with you and pray for you. We'd love to see new content, when you're ready, as your wit and humor helps makes this world a better place. Until then my good man, take care and get better. Excelsior!

Was having a bit of back luck today and when putting stuff away in my closet I came upon a little white box that I couldn't remember what it was. I opened it and instantly had a smile. It was the 2015 Halloween Club Pack. Thanks for putting a smile on my face today.

Hi Rog, just wanted to say I was an avid reader years ago, and had countless hours of entertainment from your Horror Movie features, Halloween CYOA games, convention photos and the Pickleman comics. I think thanks to I-Mockery, I became a Friday the 13th/Jason Voorhees fan before I ever saw any of the films! Every one was a full feature demonstrating your dedication and enthusiasm. It was inspiring to find a site so niche yet so fleshed out and full of character, that offered a warm welcome to visitors and shared something sincere.

I-Mockery, for me, typifies the "Golden Age" of the internet, and I was glad I grew up reading such hilarious and imaginative material. Thanks so much for sharing all of this with us, it has been a pleasure, I'll continue to visit for many years to come.

My deepest condolences on your loss, I hope in time your heart will mend.

I had not entered for a long while to your website, until today I saw an image of Boo Berry (here in Mexico it is quite hard to see General Mills' cereals in the wild) and was instantly reminded of how my misspent youth had a large component of talking about the weird stuff you wrote here with a few of my select good friends 'in the know'.

As somebody who is chronically depressed, I have felt the ping of unworthiness even seeing how people love me (and myself closing the doors for them) and flashes on how the stuff I do is good, while feeling it is trash as a general thing.

I have had contemplated suicide quite a bit, but have not come quite close to it. I thank your celebration of life for your wife, it helps in a roundabout matter to see that perhaps I have value of my own.

Thank you for so many great articles, and I hope you do well. Make your own life the monument your wife deserves.

Godspeed, and again, thank you.

I remember playing castelvania priest 2 battle back in the day, even without internet (My father borrowed a cd with tons of flash games from a friend and transfered them to the pc) and one day i had a slightly faint memory of it, looked up online, and found it alongside many other old flash games. It was fun reviving a memory and discovering games that were of astounding quality for the period (Domo-Kun Angry Smashfest being superb by 2002 standards). I give my respects to your wife and a congratulations on the milestone. Thanks for managing to have your creativity appreciated by many, Roger.

Found this site from Fark in Fall 2004, when I was just settling into college and didn’t really know anyone yet. All the Halloween content helped keep me sane until I had made enough friends. I’ve been by here many times since then, and even recently linked the breakdown of “Ax ‘Em” on the forums of bad-movie podcast “How Did This Get Made?” on the subsection where you suggest what movie they should do next.

I still remember how I first found your site- a friend had recently introduced me to Newgrounds, and I stumbled upon Domo Kun's Anrgry Smashfest. I opened the link to I-Mockery in a separate window, read a few "minimocks", and from there I was hooked.

The amount of work you and others put into this website over the years is astounding, and you should be damn proud of that. Kids these days can build up a following on social media in the blink of an eye, but you guys did it the old school way.

Good luck to you -Rog-, no matter what your decisions are and where your path takes you. Somebody as talented and gifted as you doesn't deserve to be in a perpetual state of misery and anguish.

Also stop by the forums sometime and say hi. The 4 people who still post there would appreciate it ;)

I've been following your website and writing for these 20 years; in a way I grew up with you, and the insights, laughs and nostalgia you gave me can't be measured. We've never met, and I've rarely commented over the years, but i-Mockery has always been a formative part of my life.

My heart hurts for you, RoG, but I'm glad you're holding on through these tough times. Whether you come back—which I truly hope—or move on to new things, I salute you and wish you the best of the best. I'll carve a jack-o-lantern in your honor this year, buddy.

I haven't been a regular of the site for quite some time now. But I've read enough to know that the past two years have been trying times for you. You have my sympathies.

I remember discovering I-Mockery back in 2007. I was working as a clerk for a hotel and working on the graveyard shift. Doing so meant far more time to spend my time lurking around your site than I care to admit. Every article, editorial and update that came by was a joy for me to peruse and always kept me company every night.

For all your hard work, you have my deepest appreciation. You showed me how much some lines of text can brighten anyone's day with hearty humor.

Hey RoG,
Been a fan of your site before I moved to Japan from New Zealand 8 years ago, and it has helped keep me sane, and feel connected to western pop-culture and that of my youth in such a helpful way. Was devastated to read of the loss of Re, and I was touched to see that you left a piece of her here in the land I now call home. Thanks for help keeping me happy when far from home.

I-Mockery has always meant a lot to me over the years, and it's only recently I realized just how much such is the case. From the moment I read some of the I-Mockery team's content, coming here was part of my routine, and as I go through my day, it never ceases to amaze me how it still helped define so much of my life.

I learned about great movies and insane video games I never would have seen or heard of without this side and those on it. I learned to love the Pickleman and the misadventures of the site's staff, absurd ROM hacks, and more. The fact that I actually got to contribute to the site a few times was a dream come true and I'm always thankful that I got that chance.

Nothing, however, reminds me of I-Mockery like Halloween. I've never known anyone who loved it more than RoG, and I've never known anyone who embodied everything great about the season more than him. The guy practically bleeds Mallowcreme Pumpkins at this point. I consider Doc Mock to be essential Halloween viewing, and the Halloween Jack-o-Juke has been the homepage of my cell phone for years now. It's really telling for me that someone who historically hasn't been a fan of October (circumstantially, it's been a month where I've had some awful luck) has gradually begun to look forward to it every year due to I-Mockery's annual 3 months of Halloween.

My Pickle Hat's off to you, I-Mockery, and especially you, RoG. May you keep rocking and savoring the best of the season for years to come.

I loved the editorials on this website summing up different things in life. (I actually have some printed out and saved in a red binder; along with your first update after that period of silence)Those definetly helped me cope with entering adulthood after leaving high school, AND NOW I'M A PRETTY COMPETENT GUY IN HIS EARLY 30'S!

This site...It reminds me of cold fall/winter nights, when the internet wasn't so big, spent eating the turkey Slice Encore Dinner while surfing the internet...A sense of warmth. A sense of comfort. A sense of the world being just right. A reason to just relax and unplug.

Here's to 20 more, Buddy. YOU FOR REAL NO S*** INSPIRE ME...and I'm a pretty outgoing guy already. If I had to go through what has entered your life, I SERIOUSLY DON'T KNOW HOW THE FUDGE I WOULD HANDLE EVERYTHING AND KEEP IT TOGETHER.

Life can suck, BUT IT'S TIME WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE/FRIENDS (EVEN IF THEY ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF A SCREEN) THAT MAKE THE SOMETIMES LONG DAILY GRIND WORTH IT.

You keep inspiring, Rog!!!

Rog, it is good to hear from you, to hear your realness and honesty. Like so many above, I-Mockery’s 2 months of Halloween became an early staple of my late childhood as I first began to fall in love with the internet in junior high (2005?), your web site was one of my fast favorites, which has persisted throughout my life. I adored Max Burbank’s thanksgiving hell stories and videos, the interactive Halloween costume quiz and similar laugh riots of madness. In high school I went full swing trying to really absorb as much strange madness as possible, and so many of your film reviews, and then your movie mosoleum, were exceptional guides for me. As a lover of bugs and insects, and an illustrator myself, I’ve always found your choices inspiring. My heart is with you in your great and abundant grief. Your love and your loss is unique, and it is with such warmth I receive you through to honor the 20 years that have gone into this site. For what it’s worth, I lost the love of my life three and a half year ago now, and the way the grey screen of grief covers and changes and empties all is very relatable. My heart is with you, and I hope you can keep beloved ones close to you in meatspace. All my love, Happy Halloween Rog, Most Sincerely, ~ Forrest Marie

Hi Roger, thank you so much for this site. I discovered it in high school around the early/mid 2000s and it was one of the first sites I'd check as soon as I got home every day. Your articles about weird flea markets and road trips were some of my favorites. At some point I stopped checking in, but it had a huge impact on me as a teenager. I was very sorry to hear about Re, but I am happy that you are able to pull through it. Whatever the future of the site is, I hope you will have a good life and future generations can discover one of the best sites of "old internet".

I've loved going through the two months of Halloween for years, both as a way of celebrating the spooky season and of indulging my interests in weird genre films, gross junk food and general cultural ephemera in the 'off season' in between.

This year I've been inspired to watch as many awful horror movies as I can between now and November 1, and spread my evaluations of them to friends (I'm not much for social media), and I think that this site is a big part of that inspiration. Thank you so much for your writing over the years, even if you're not adding to the site this year, you've already passed your fire to others like me, and I imagine that love of this time of year will burn bright for a long time.

Hey Rog...iMockery was a big part of my life when I was a young teen, going online to read retro wacky goodness when I had no one else really as a friend. I used to sneak onto the basement computer at 3am (time zones woo) for Doc Mock and I never missed an episode. As the sun would come up it felt like I'd just hung out with the best pals a guy could ask for all night. We're all older now but this site is still in our minds, and you in our hearts I'm sure. Best wishes from Canada...PICKLE POWER!!

I was a constant visitor of I-Mockery since back in it's vanilla form. I remember several articles that made me smile (Pillow and Blanket Fort Wars will always be my favorite.) Protoclown's Tales from the Longbox tickled the comic nerd in me. And every Halloween I would hunt for Kriegers cards hidden in random articles. While I understand that everyone has to move on and get some paying work (Sadly, Picklemen don't have salaries), I do miss the days when the gang was all together.

When I read about Re's passing, I was completely heartbroken for you both, and for myself as well. It felt like I lost a friend. I remember her wicked sense of humor, and her role as Miss Diagnosis in your Doc Mock series. I loved her, as I'm sure all my fellow I-Mockers did.

I still visit this site, looking through the old mocks, laughing. I really hope this site can be revived in a new form, perhaps with the old crew, or maybe with a brand new one as "I-Mockery: The Next Generation". But even if it doesn't, I will cherish the memories you provided, and at least knowing that the site and all its features still stand.

...

Unlike CollegeHumor, which is barely a shadow of it's former self...

I always like to visit this site every Halloween. It means a lot to me to see works from so many like minded people. I remember when I first went here to play the Simon belmont vs priest game, but stuck around to read rom hacks, pickle man comics, movie reviews, more games, and a slew of random articles that would be mindless rants that I couldn't help but agree with. I personally miss the trick or treat adventures since they were always so thick in content. Even on the wrong choices, you'd get a good laugh in, and it gave back a little Halloween spirit in what always feels like a throttled holiday. This site will always have a place in my heart, and I'm glad my friend referred it to me so long ago.

On a side note, I noticed that Cinamassacre on youtube have a bit on both the Abobo game, and Ivan Drago game on this site. It sounds like both you and James Rolf would make great friends since both of you are in sync humor wise.

If you ever update again in the future, odds are I'll be there see it.

Hey Rog,

I've been reading this site for about 15 years and when I was in middle school some of your reviews actually helped me work up the courage to watch some of these horror movies I was too scared try. Now I write about film and music, interviewed a lot of horror directors and composers and even host a weekly horror movie night at a venue in NYC. Growing up with this site is the number one reason I really got into horror at all.

You might not remember, but I actually ran into you and Re once maybe 5 years ago when I was living in LA at the Brewery Art Walk and getting to say hello was genuinely one of the coolest things that happened to me the entire time I lived there. Thanks for everything you do and will do. It's been such an important influence on so many people.

I'll share some memories with I-Mockery: Around 2003 When I was in the 2 last years of school I finally got internet and the first things I did was to download some old movies, emulators and read stuff about my favourite decade the 80's, early 90's.

I can't remember how, but it was relatively fast that I stumbled upon I-Mockery and when I read some of the stuff there I was engulfed in that incredible 80's kid atmosphere.

I felt at home at I-Mockery and had it in my bookmarks since than, I even downloaded some rom hacks from your site and still have them : )) . Your site is a time machine to many of our thoughts and memories.

I remember how I used the internet school to read some of your posts, like movie reviews and bursting out laughing. Creativity is a very important part of life, the part that renews us and keeps us alive, you carrying that burden for many was inspiring for me, but not in a knowingly way, rather your site as a whole, your ability to make others laugh and to carry on the spirit of our childhood gave me instinctual hope to be inspiring too.

Even now you keep on to inspire by showing others how deep a friendship or a relationship can be, may God bless you and fill you with love.

I came across I-Mockery via Newgrounds in 2002 when AOL was still a thing and discovering the internet was a new experience for me. I want to say it was the Castlevania II Parody and since then I've never looked back.

To be honest a majority of the things I got into I found through this site whether by mini-mock, classic reviews or what have you. I-Mockery had a major influence on my life and always brought me laughs whether my life was good, uncertain or even at my lowest. I have no problem saying I-Mockery had a positive impact and made a difference in my life.

I-Mockery was one of the first websites I encountered when I first got regular internet access. I remember being delighted to encounter such a robust trove of weirdness. I-Mockery was one of the first pop culture websites that I discovered when I began to really dive into the world wide web around 2006-2007. For me, it was like an induction into a weird and wonderful world that I never knew had existed. I still recall the hours I would sit reading article after article, everything from recaps of horror films and video games to homemade "choose you own adventure" stories. The memories I have of those times are some I'll treasure forever.

I don't know if you remember me or not but my name is Andrew, and about 5ish years ago I asked you for a favor. Being in Jobcorps and having no way to claim one before they were sold out, I asked if you had a spare Halloween goodie box laying around. To my complete and honest surprise, you showed a total stranger kindness that was so wholesome I shed a tear or two. Thank you, Rog. Thank you for being so sweet, and for having one of the best sites I've had the pleasure of keeping close to me over the years. There's something deeply personal that I get from I-m that just doesn't show up in a lot of other places. I hope you start writing again when you're ready, but if you don't, the memories you've left with this particular fan will be more than enough, and I'm one hundred percent sure my kids are going to be introduced to this place someday. I don't think there any many people in this world who are as kind and genuine as you are, and it's no wonder you were happily married for so long. I bet Re is proud of you, and is watching over you every day until you can join her again.

Hi Rog,

I just wanted to say thank you for making this post and thank you so much for all this great work over more than 20 years!

I don't even remember when and where I found I-Mockery now, it has been so many moons.

One thing I know I can attribute to the site is my introduction to roms and emulators for old games and computer systems. It has allowed me to explore so many older games I would have never had access to before. I honestly think the first one I ever tried was that disturbing Chiller light gun game on a very rickety NES emulator.

Another favorite is the article about building the Flaming Carrot costume.

Thank you so much for creating so much with so much obvious passion.

I support so so much,

Thank you for keeping the site going, even if you may not end up updating again. I-Mockery has been a part of my life since probably about 2004 and it’s such a comfort to go back through. Staying up way too late on school nights and reading article after article was a huge part of my teenage years. Vicariously experiencing hilarious B movies, reading the candy reviews, watching Doc Mock, and everything thing else in between—all wonderful memories.

I think the most exciting part for me was when I finally became a responsible adult and had money so I could buy a Halloween club pack after pining for years. After receiving my club pack and experiencing the pure Halloween joy it brought me I was inspired to make treat bags to share with my coworkers every year. I spend a decent amount of money on them but seeing how excited people are to find their favorite candy, decorate their workstations with stickers, or have fun with silly knickknacks makes it all worth it.

I don’t know if I could ever properly explain how much your work has influenced my life but I just have to say thank you.

I’m thinking about you and Re during this season. Take care, RoG.

Oh yeah, and it means the world to me that you introduced me to Dark Night Of The Scarecrow. It's become a bonafide Halloween tradition to take in this peerless classic; I've introduced other people to it. They too have felt its power and it's all because of you, sir!

I hope this finds you well, sir.

rog - i found your site when i was just a kid, almost 20 years ago. it helped me fall in love with horror / exploitation film and just made me laugh a million times over the years. i absolutely would not be in the place that i am right now without you - i work at a drive-in theater that does repertory screenings of horror movies all the time, i go to 35mm screenings of horror / exploitation movies constantly and virtually all the friends i've made as an adult have been through those two things.
i'm happier than i've ever been and i feel like more people love and accept me for who i am (i'm a trans woman!) than i ever could've believed possible.
thank you so much for all of the work you've done and for keeping the torch burning. i will never forget you, your love and your passion, or anyone who ever contributed to the site. it has meant the world to me in a way i don't think anyone could've ever expected. i'll tell you more about it if you ever want a distraction or just to talk a bit, just shoot me an email.

thank you so much my friend

Rog,

You and Matt over at XE were a huge part of my teenage years and I fondly recall spending hours trawling through your articles whether it was your MUSCLE retrospective or downloading a RealPlayer file of "I must beat PAAAAAAAAAC MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN".

Sometimes I'd go for a year or so without checking the site, but I'd always come back eventually. It was always a treat to see the animated banners on the HomePage, like the Ninja Gaiden "Where Ninjas Run Free" bannner.

I'd like to think that visiting counter culture websites run by Gen-X-ers (and listening to a lot of Ween) are what helped me to form my creative perspective and enabled me to work in creative industry for a few years.

I'll never forget what you did for me Rog (and I'm sure so many others) and you'll always be an important part of my formative years.

Thanks.

Hey, bud
So I rediscovered this site today.
20 years...thats insane to think about.
I started looking at your site when I was 8.
I fell off for the past, maybe, 8 years ago.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
But, you are the sole person/reason I delved into horror and gore movies and just halloween-esque movies in general.
Your content has been the epicenter of what I love today.
I wish you only the best.

Hey, Rog. I was thinking about you today and so know I'm a few months late but it's nice to hear from you still.

I've talked to you a few times, on i-mockery, on Twitter, under different names, just conversations here and there, and if there's one thing I've always loved it's how enthusiastic and positive i-mockery always was. It's funny how it's been twenty years - I must've been around since near the beginning, then. I loved reading your weird food maker toy articles, checking on the Halloween candies every year, and above all my favorite article has got to be the MUSCLE toy article that made me find this place. I was a big MUSCLE collector back then, and I would both make my own bios for all my toys complete with little blurbs about their personality and place in the imaginary MUSCLE world I had constructed as well as look at all the "official" material for the toyline and greater Kinnikuman world. I've reread and laughed at the MUSCLE article over and over, and from there I remember so many other little bits and pieces throughout the years, like the Transformers movie article that made me grab my older brother so he could see, or the Planes Trains and Automobiles piece, or how I can't even think about romhacks without remembering your River City Ransom ninja rap video. Heck, this website is why I love the River City games as much as I do.

I love you a lot, man. Maybe that's weird coming from some random person on the internet you've never met who barely comments and didn't even comment when she was reading the articles as a kid (and I commented on EVERYTHING as a kid) but I-Mockery and you have been that small part of my life for years, decades I guess. I can point to this place as a reason I'm so fond of I Wanna Be A Hulkamaniac, and when I was crushingly lonely in early high school after moving to a new country this place provided a kind of safe haven where I could laugh about Randy Savage's rap album or the McDonalds McFlurry McMaker.

I know things have been tough for you, and I'll never know what to say or have any kind of words for you to help with all that you've been through over the last almost-two-years, but I hope that my sharing of these memories helps bring a smile to your face if just for a moment.

Thank you for keeping I-Mockery as it is. It's a reminder of a simpler time on the internet in so many ways, one I'll treasure forever. Happy 20th anniversary, and hopefully one day Halloween will return. If not, that's okay too. Just please take care of yourself the best you can.

Love,
Erin.

Hi RoG,

you probably will not remember me as it is too long ago.

We have worked together on the PETA (painful extinction through assault) flash game which is still here.

Just wanted to say that I have enjoyed that very much to that time and I have always come back to see the development of this site. There is no other website like this. Everything is unique and you can be very proud of all of the things here.

It touched people across the globe (including me from Germany) and it still does.

This is the first time I revisited this site for several years now which is why I just read the full story about Re. It is 2:40 AM here and I am speechless - about the tragedy itself but also how you are dealing with it in the previous two years. Keep strong!

I wish you strength to find the final spots for Re, but also to be able to get your life going and to finally see more and more light on the horizon.

Take care,

Flash

Hi RoG,

I sincerely hope you are doing well. I was telling someone about the awesome AWESOME glow in the dark shirt you used to sell on here.

I wanted to let you know that my heart broke for you when you announced the death of your partner. I can't say that it'll ever get easier.

Take good care of yourself.

Hey RoG,

Boy it has been a while since I have posted here.

I still remember when I first stumbled upon your site, in fact I know exactly the article! It was the Battle Beast Rom hack review as at my job at the time was painfully boring and I had complete open internet for some reason. From there I opened up your site daily hoping for new content.

I read the entire back catalog of articles and reviews and just dived down the rabbit hole of content waiting for the new Halloween Spectacular every year and even listening to the alternative commentary track you did one year.

I also remember sending Protoclown my copy of "The Doom Comic" and loving the review that was made. Being part of a feature on the site filled me with happiness.

By far the highlight of the site for me was your Ninja Golf article and flash remake. For the longest time I remember playing this game but for the life of me I swore it was an NES game and kept searching in vain. Oddly this game as been remade as an App... it's okay.

This site was for sure a stepping stone in the way in which I learned about "Internet Comedy" one I use to this day as I do many works such as Blogging, Guest Video Reviews, alternative commentaries and even working for a video game company.

What I am trying to say is even though you may not immediately see it, your site has impacted lives beyond what you realize and I for one an truly happy to have seen it in the late 2000's and promise to keep checking back for new content.

RoG,

I'm of course sorry for all you've been through

Nowadays it's so lonely with all this virus shit that's going on

My 28th birthday is coming close and I came to the site today remembering how about 12 years ago I won a giant Leatherface figure in a Halloween mask contest, and you shipped it all the way to Colombia when I won

Back then I used to browse this site pretty much daily, scrolling through the archives and playing the games+reading whole articles when there weren't any new posts

I just hope to remind you how much joy you have given to a large audience without expecting anything in return

Please take care, wish you the best

I've benefited tremendously from your site, RoG, and it's been - well, not "good", because what can be good in the suffering you've endured? But it's been memorable and important, sharing a small part of this journey with you. From the early 2000s reading your site to pass the days in my receptionist job in college to grieving with you over Re, we kind of grew up together, even if we haven't met. Thanks for the memories and I wish you the best.

Returning to this site after a several year hiatus after undergoing a bout of nostalgia.

Rog, I'm just now reading about your loss and I'm so sorry. As for content, you don't owe us anything at all... we're all fortunate to have gotten your upbeat, zany, and fun perspective and reviews as long as we have. No need to write unless it feels right.

I've been with this site even back in the Geocities days (I remember submitting a Friday the 13th and maybe a Home Alone review on some sort of open to everyone video game review forum). I've always loved the humor and community, especially since the earlier days when I was still discovering who I am...your site was a hub for like-minded folks and encouraged me to embrace my inner retro geek!

I really appreciate your leaving this site up as a living archive of a more innocent and carefree time of my life at the very least... especially as I've recently found so many other sites of this era are defunct.

My parents actually operate a haunted house now and for the last five years that I've gotten to help with after years of enjoying all things spooky on your site. If you are ever passing through Ohio are Halloween feel free to reach out! Wishing you well!

I remember the first time I heard of this site was when I played the Castlevania 2 Priest Battle on Newgrounds. I followed the link to this site and was amazed to find all the funny and silly pop culture celebration stuff, from nostalgic childhood stuff being reviewed in a comedic ways to weird choose your own adventure stories and other goofy features.

I was never very active as a member of these forums or a commenter, but I always checked in every so often, especially around Halloween as the Halloween season became a more and more important part of this site's updates. I found out about so many gross and weird horror movies, bizarre candies, pointless halloween specials from the 80s, bizarre board games, dorky comics, and I laughed so much at all the parodies and features, and had a great time with all the flash games.

As I grew older and most people stopped caring about Halloween as much as I did, it was always comforting to know that this site was full of people who shared my childlike glee at the holiday. Eventually, almost entirely on a whim, I started hosting a horror movie marathon every October, called the Scream Stream. At first it was just me and a few friends, but it soon grew into a huge community of people who love Halloween and gory spooky movies.

I needed something to play to test the equipment before the show started, so I got in the habit of running some tunes from the Jack-o-Juke along with some ghost animations before every show, just to make sure everything looked ok. Over time the Jack-o-juke preview became part of the tradition, and everyone shows up early to enjoy a randomized half hour playlist of those carefully selected Halloween tunes.

The scream stream is going on its 8th year now, and I've met some lifelong friends through organizing it, and none of it would've ever happened without this site and its contagious love of halloween and happy nostalgia. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Hey, this is a while off from this post but I've been going on your site since around 2008, I originally saw your Domo Kun Smash Fest on Newgrounds as a kid but didn't connect the dots until years later. I really loved your movie reviews and your reviews of ROM hacks. I also tuned in to nearly all of your streams for Doc Mock's Movie Mausoleum, those were a great time and it's amazing how ahead of the times it was, what with the ubiquity of famous live streamers. Your website is an amazing time capsule of a different time on the internet, it makes me miss all the sites I'd browse back in the day when we weren't barraged with so much information at once.

I remember that I discovered the site when I was in high school around 2003. Ever since then, I would always make it the default on my PCs whenever I open Firefox.

As I grew up, the Jones Soda pages and all of the candy and Halloween content were the highlights of my day. A lot of the movie pages helped me discover old movies to watch as well.

I still look at the site every now and again to see how you've been doing. I hope all is well and I look forward to seeing the games you're involved in making.

RoG! If it's been 20 years, I'm proud to say I've been around for at least 18 or 19 of them. I think I found this site through XE or one of the other old school pop culture sites my teenage self absorbed in the early 00's. I took me a minute to put together that the guy eating Boo Berry on Fred Willard's show is the same from I-mockery. I have so many great memories of this site, and it's content has really stuck with me. It definitely helped influence me a bit when I had my own site about that same time, and more recently when I decided to start a blog a couple years back. I write with an artist buddy of mine, and a few years ago we began initial ideas for an online game. The game was never finished, but I knew we had the potential to do it because I instantly thought of how you collaborated to make Abbobo. If it weren't for that game, I don't think I would have had it in me to even try, due to a lack of a realistic frame of reference.

Your articles and videos have really brightened my day over the years. The Halloween and Xmas season were made better thanks to your content. Your YT vids are full of internet gold! I still get a kick out of you yelling at Weird Al and racing the trolley car. But I appreciated the more personal stuff like playing a song with Re. Then there's the really little things. Like, I can't look at my Domo figure without wanting to flap his arms and make him fly around like Rocket Knight. (I refrain from this, of course. I'm a grown man!) And I cannot see a mausoleum in person without thibking of Doc Mock.

I hope you continue the site, but if you don't, it's a wonderful time capsule of an internet age gone by. I'm very sorry to hear about Re. You two were adorable. If there was a nerdy online couple I shipped, it was you guys! As someone who has had their own battle with depression, I empathize, and I hope you are able to make peace with the situation you're in. Like you said, there's no "moving on," but as an online personality I've looked up to, and as a fellow human being, I'd hate to see you lose all meaning. I'm glad you've already found a goal with scattering her remains. But I hope you don't give up creating, because you're multi-talented. It would be a shame to waste gifts like yours.

Anyway, Happy Halloween all things considered. Or as you might say, "YEEEAAAHHHHHH!"

It's that time of year again, and once again this site pops up in mind. I-Mockery is an oasis of the passion and love that used to dominate the web many years ago, before it became a pit of corporate cynicism. Thank you for keeping that old school internet spirit alive. Thank you for all you have done over the years, for all the laughs you've given me. As Halloween is upon us once again, I'm excited to read your candy reviews again for probably the 20th time.

Happy 21st Anniversary, and I wish nothing but strength and happiness to you as you continue the healing process. We are all here for you.

Kr22 (Guest) on 09/10/2020 11:08 am

Along the lines of what Nathan said, I feel like this site is more meaningful than ever. I remember when for most, the sole purpose of the internet was for enjoyment. I mean sure, information sharing on a more practical level was the driving force behind it, but for the average person waiting for their dial up to connect, it was all about finding fun stuff to enjoy. The web was packed all those Geo Cities and Angelfire u built it sites containing clever animations and topics pulled from the far corners of the builder's imagination. Fast forward to today, it's hard to find anything on the internet that isn't divisive, commercialized or politicized in some way. Everything is so grave. Even social media pages that went from being all about personal expression and social networking in the myspace days turned into a cesspool where people do the internet equivalent of debating by covering their ears and screaming at each other.

This site brings me back to the reason I (and most of us) USED to use the internet. To find those special people like Rog who had that unique ability to pick out the simple, obscure joys in life and somehow weave them into an ideology. This in turn brought people together who could identify with this ideology; though maybe not in the tangible sense of being able to describe it, or even being able to say what specifically it was even comprised of, but we all knew that we 'knew it when we saw it'.

Whenever I open this site I feel like it is the 00's, 90's, 80's again. Reading all of that comments does give one strength and enables us to dive in into a time that was for many was better than 2020 at least. Sometimes I wish very hard for those peaceful moments full of cozy emotions and I-Mockery is a part of that too. What I take from all the comments here is, to see life a bit more like at those moments that I cherish. Life is difficult, but if we take the time to enjoy the pure things in life, if we just lay back and enjoy things that we enjoy, we start living again. God bless you RoG.

I can't even imagine what it's like for RoG. Everyone else gets to enjoy this time of year, but for him, it represents everything he lost. Not just because it's about remembering dead loved ones, and a huge part of the site, but also because it wasn't long after Halloween that we lost Re... who was not only his other half, but apparently his silent partner, working on a huge part of the site, and we never knew.
I don't know if he'll ever feel like coming back to i-Mockery (we can only hope) but it's hard to imagine the Two Months of Halloween will ever be the same.

I spent a night in Iraq about a year ago describing Abobo’s Big adventure to a 19 year old who didn’t even know Who Abobo was. Needless to say it was a long night, I think he could grasp that it was important to me and that helped him get into the conversation more. Like the actual subject matter wasn’t where the connection was, it was the joy the subject matter produced that helped establish the connection. I felt simultaneously old and young. I don’t know how Abobo got left behind in pop culture. I don’t know you, I feel like I know enough though. I hope you’re finding something to latch onto. You’ve brought a lot of joy to me and I’ve been able to express myself and connect to other humans using that joy. I hope you’re OK.

Roger, i want to thank you. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I want to thank you for being brave enough to share, in raw unflinching graphic detail, the utter devastation that Re's passing wreaked on your psyche. I want to thank you for being strong enough to write out exactly how, why, and how completely her passing shattered your soul.

I have severe debilitating mental illness. I also have a fiancé who loves me, as he tells me all the time, more than his next breath. And what you've done, by writing so transparently about the raw agony of your experience, is forced me to see exactly what happens if I lose my fight. I cannot pretend he will be okay or better off-- if I ever get low, the first thing that comes to mind is your writing. What I think of myself or how I think he 'should' feel doesn't matter in that moment; you forced me to realize how he *would* feel and what I would be doing to him.

I love this man more than I could ever love anything else. You forced me to see reality, and the stakes of my fight, with clear eyes. Every time I've gotten low in the past year, I've thought of you and what I'd be doing to him-- the stark, gory, unflinching reality of your loss and pain came back to me in vivid detail. You took that idea 100% unambiguously off the table in a way that a more 'sanitized,' hopeful version never could have done. And once it was gone, I was able to look *up* and climb in a way I'd never done before.

Now, those thoughts do not even enter my brain any more. Not even intrusively. Because I *know* in a way I never could have before what I would be putting the love of my life through. Your experience has branded itself into my subconscious. I've shown others, friends of mine, and it's had a similar effect on them.

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you for showing me. Thank you for showing me in a way I can't dispute or handwave away. I've always loved I-mockery and what you've built here but I never thought you'd have a hand in keeping the love of my life safe and happy. I owe you more than words can express for being so vulnerable and brave.

Thank you.

I kept reading and occasionally commenting before I plucked up the courage to visit, then post in the forum. I still count some of my more permanent online friendships as coming from participation in that arena.

I still come back from time-to-time, to read about Vanilla Ice, or Kurt Thomas, or even to gaze on the beautiful visage of Luke Skywalker in the SWHS article. Good times all.

I wish you peace.

Hello -RoG-, as always, visiting this site brings up some nice memories. Today I saw a recent photography of a girl I was in love with in school, I realized how fast time flies, we grew "old". Seeing her face being all grown up made me fall in love with her again but in a different way, it sparkled something human inside of me, pure and innocent love. Even if we were never together, she is a reminder of older times, the video games I used to play when seeing her face everyday at school, the pure hopes and dreams I had and how life can let it all fall apart. This life drains us all of our dreams and hopes sooner or later, I sit in the darkness -RoG-, naturally I sound very dramatic-poetic now, but I won't hold back, as you have been very open with us all, I want you to know that there are many of us who are going through various forms of darkness. There are so called solutions to certain problems, but personally for me there is only one person who can help me out and it is Jesus Christ. No preacher, no church member, no prophet, no woman on earth can heal me. Right at this moment I know I am a failure and my heart is broken and all I want is Jesus Christ and his true pure love, a personal love. He knows everything about me, I want him to hug me and to carry me to that place of purity, tranquility, truth and everlasting life where God's love abounds. Jesus loves you too -RoG-, even if we were blatant sinners, never give up brother, the first person to go to heaven was a repentant criminal who died next to the Lord. Jesus saw all of your tears and when he died a painful death on the cross, covered in darkness, it was for you also. Never give up -RoG-, I love you, we love you.

Hi, Rog. I’ve been reading your site since I was thirteen years old. It delighted me as a boy to be able to read a site that was so brimming with joy, that so treasured the special little things and events in this world. Together with X-Entertainment, I learned from I-Mockery never to let a moment pass without its due appreciation, and to pay attention to and be grateful for simple things and little pleasures. I wouldn’t be a Halloween fan, or a horror fan, without you!

Thinking of you today. Thank you for sharing so much with me.

Rog, I've been frequenting i-mockery since 2009 and wanted to say hello during my annual Halloween season visit to the page. If you get a chance to read any of these comments I hope it brings you joy knowing how much joy you have brought so many of us, for so long. Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Rog,
Your site is still one of my favourites to come to every October. The articles always give me a good chuckle and nostalgic feelings. Hope you are well.

Hey Roger,

I found i-mockery back in probably middle school, and this site along with jayisgames and a few others were a companion for people that didn't have many friends. The 13 year old boys and girls and other folks who played your CYOA stories and read your candy reviews are now parents, teachers, doctors; some of them are happy, some of them are self-fulfilled, some of them are lost, and some of them are no longer with us.

I hope you have a sense of how important you and Re and your site were to so many people. You didn't do anything important, you just invited us in to share your dumb, silly joke stuff. And of course, that dumb silly joke stuff is the only thing that matters in the end.

Sincerely,
neojester79

Hi, Roger.

I'm not the best at writing, but here it goes:
I started visiting I-mockery around 2002/2002. It was an escape from a physically and emotionally abusive upbringing. The blogs you guys wrote always had me laughing - ofter times to the point of tears. My favorite time to check in was around Halloween... I loved seeing gifs/stills from movies that I never even knew existed at the time. It really helped me form a deep appreciation of campy and cult horror movies.

It was also the odd, silly, and absurd things that kept me coming back. I loved the video games. I played the DOMO-KUN game over and over again. Seeing the unusual items you picked up over the years was awesome. I never had a chance to, but I always wanted to pick up a grab bag when you were giving them out.

It was also nice to see pictures of the fun adventures you and Re went on. Anyone could tell she was a sweet person with a beautiful soul. I am very sorry for your loss. What you wrote for her was so beautiful and heartfelt.

Words can't express what I'm about to say, but I want you to know that throughout all these years, you have brought many people happiness when they were going through tough times. I'm both thankful and proud of you for all your contributions. I sincerely mean it when I say I-mockery and it's people hold a special place in my heart.

I hope you are holding okay up as much as possible.

Thank you for all the entertainment you have provided us over the years. I wish you the best.

I’m here because for years my boyfriend (husband eventually) was really into your site, and all the things you do:)
He’d mention it/you with regularity.
Then, one day he sent me a link and insisted I read.
It was from when you had lost your girl.

He was profoundly sad and affected by what you had written.
He had aforementioned all these parallels between you and she, and he and I.
I eventually did read it — but not until way, WAY later. At the time, I just didn’t want to be sad.

In January of 2020, something happened to take him away from me. Him, who I had spent the last 19 years of my life with. Him who I have two daughters with. Him that had been one of my best friends for almost 23 years.

Two months later, I finally read what he wanted me to forever ago.

At that time, it was beyond difficult to finish. Lots of stopping and revising.
I did eventually finish. I didn’t leave any little insignificant note at the time.

I think I was just kind of speechless. I was just lost in general at the time.

But, I thought about you earlier today (I can’t remember what happened exactly, but you came to mind).

All I wanted was to leave you something like this. Send you my good vibes out to wherever you are. Hope that this finds you well.
Beyond well.

Anyway, that’s all.
Please I hope you’re well.

I hope life's treating you well. I started reading I-Mockery back when I was an undergraduate in college in 2002. It helped give me something decompress with after long bouts of studying or term papers. Still check in every so often to see the unique brand of humor brought in by you and everyone who contributes to this site.

Hope you come back again someday. But, for now, I'm glad everything I remember is still here and ready to be accessed again at any time.

I hope you are ok, Roger, I remember visiting your web a few times in early 2000s while looking for toys and action figures reviews. I also downloaded your song "I'm gonna beat Pac Man", it is the funniest thing ever. Really, I hope you're ok. Hugs from Perú

Had a random memory pop up on playing the games you made and reading your articles/reviews when I was a teen. Decided to visit the site after 5-6 years to reminisce. I just read your last few posts and could not hold back my tears. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Thank you for making my childhood better. Happy Holidays, sir.

I remember when I discovered I-Mockery it really was a treasure trove. I was interested in cult and B grade films and all of a sudden I found other weirdo's who liked the same, and it was thanks to you and your other writers that I got some really good comic and film recommendations over the years.

Much of what I see on Youtube now is content which had pretty much been done by you first. I hope you appreciate how innovative this website was back in the earlier days of the internet this kind of materiel was hard to find.

So again thank you for putting yourself out there for all those years so we could find you.

I haven't seen this site in years, but its beautiful. Yes its a lot of crass 00s dude humour, but its also beautiful. The time and care put into custom graphics, and the passion you show in your topics, have been wonderful to remember. The site is better than I remember. I'm so glad its still around.

You're not a blogging machine. I have read your posts about your devastation, and its heartbreaking. You don't owe anyone new posts lol. But if and when you're ready to come back, I'll be here with you. And if you don't come back, thanks for the cool site.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Hammi (Guest) on 05/23/2022 10:05 pm

Oh -RoG-.

I will try and not be sentimental but... I-Mockery spoke to me in a way that I had not anticipated. The utter love for old B-movie horrors and obscure comics, humorous articles on everyday bliss and woes like ridiculously sugary cereals and atrocious corporate contraptions, ranting on local radio about Domo-kun. You and your team helped shape my interest in weird and wholesome classic media, and broadened my view on American culture from a refreshing point of view.

And this was since back in 2006 when I was just 19 and doing night shifts in a warehouse, which only enhanced the experience of browsing through the editorials and Mini Mocks for entertaining reviews and trivias about horror flicks and retro games. They had biting sarcasm and hilarious emphasis on facts that brought out the absurd. And most importantly, they felt personal and down to earth which made for enjoyable reading.

Speaking of night shifts, it was during one of these nights when I was drawn to your Pickle Man character. So much that I actually ordered the comic off the site, and it came bundled with silly items and glittery goodies. You were even kind enough to sign the comic for me with a personal greeting. Oh my god the memories it brings just by thinking about it. And I still have them like a proud owner. Just little things like these made my whole world.

I-Mockery invited to sheer reading joy, and made me WANT to write. The style and structure of the articles made such an impact on how I wrote, that it permanently altered the way I express myself with all the snark and sarcasm that follows. It made me put greater emphasis on comedy as well as maintaining a flow of relevancy to theme or topic, and better illustrate my rhetoric by colourful use of words and sentence structure. Just the way you guys have entertained me to read yours.

And of course, Ivan Drago Justice Enforcer and Abobo's Big Adventure. OF COURSE. Love letters to our childhoods. Replayable tributes that actually don't suck. Roll me some weed and burrito, it's a miracle.

So yeah, whatever you decide for your future... I root for you man. Don't think that anything you do is fruitless for whatever reason, for there's a whole damn generation on the Internet that has grown up with your site. You made it happen. Even though I only recently swung by after a long time, I would love for I-Mockery to continue existing so I know that there is still a mad lad doing God's work. Regardless, make your own happiness, wherever the road takes you. And thank you for inspiring me in ways that make me reminisce of the good times. You have my whole hearted praise my man. Take care, and be safe.

Much love and thoughts.

- Hammi

I've loved this website since I was like 12, totally remember submitting you some really lame badly written article about smoking weed at that time and rarely think about the time but it amuses me to no end as a 31 year old.

Keep on doing whatever you're doing man, or whatever works for you, nothing about it is easy as someone who has gone through the same process before...regardless thanks for the site and your creative endeavors over the years, I owe you a little and a bunch.

I'm very grateful for all you've done and made, and the fact it's still all here, I remember wishing I could help out or be involved but there wasn't much I could do at the time
It sounds like you're doing a bit better from before which I'm very happy to see, really hope things go as well as they can for you, you're always been a great guy n deserve all the time away/doing other things you wanna do that you need, I know I'm a couple years late but hoping for all the best for ya

Hey man, I visited your site when I was an annoying teenager, and still have connections to your site. It makes me glad that this site is still up, and that you're keeping on keeping on.

I lost my father a year ago. Grief is hard; it doesn't really fully go away, does it? But we make it each day at a time, and you're gonna keep making it. I believe in you, and I wish you the best of luck.

Hi Roger!

I haven't been back here in years and I truly am sorry for your loss.

I was a regular here starting from...uh...2003, I think? I was having a tough time back then and this site was a refuge of sorts. The articles never failed making me laugh (the first person story about a blackout was the best) and I lived for the I-mockery forums. Got some shit when I joined, which was a part of the ritual, I guess, but pretty soon I felt accepted and really enjoyed the conversations. Made a couple of friends on there too, though sadly, we don't keep in touch anymore. Anyways, just wanted to say that I-mockery was a hugely important thing for me and helped me cope when I was at my lowest.

Thank you, Roger. Wish you all the best.

Sincerely
Your friend from Finland
Mad Melvin
