The Trick ‘R Treat DVD Release Party!

As I promised in my last post, here are a few photos from the Trick 'R Treat DVD release party at Golden Apple Comics (yeah, they were releasing a comic too) along with the art show that was taking place next door at Gallery 1988:

Michael Dougherty (the writer/director of the film) was on hand to sign autographs. I was gonna go say hey with him, but two fangirls were yacking his head off for like 10 minutes straight, so I decided to move onto more important things such as...

No tricks here, just treats!

All the treats! Yummmmmmmmmmm!

Jordy Verrill, you lunkhead!

The coolest thing about last night was the art show taking place next door in conjunction with the DVD release. Artist Alex Pardee had his new "Hiding From The Normals" show last night and it was totally packed. In addition to the art, they were holding a costume contest and Alex himself was the big winner in my book. He actually dressed up as Jordy Verrill from "Creepshow" and the costume was perfect! Alex, you lunkhead!

NICE CROTCH!

Of course, Batman was present as well, apparently with Arkham-inspired goblins all over him. More disturbing, however, was the issue he apparently was having with his crotch. Holy nutsack, Batman!

As for the artwork itself, this one (simply titled "Katt") of a creature wearing a Greatest American Hero costume was my favorite piece. People don't reference that old show enough if you ask me. Though I've certainly tried to help it.

Not much else to tell other than that... they had the film being projected onto the wall of the back of the Golden Apple Comics building which was nice, but considering how great the film looks, it should probably be seen for the first time on something with a little more clarity than a brick wall. They also had some limited edition shirts on sale as well. Main point is, I'm just glad to see the movie getting some good exposure this season by the fans since it's direct to DVD.. Hope you'll all check it out, because it's definitely the best modern horror film to come out in a while and it absolutely deserved a worldwide theatrical release first. Hollywood... why you so stupid?

On a final note, I'd like to remind you that today (October 7th) is the last day to turn in your entries for our "Make Your Own Damn Groceries Into Halloween Jack-O-Lanterns!" contest, so please make sure you post them in the official contest thread by the end o' the day!

So you didn't get an autograph from the director? I'd love one if i loved the movie like you do

I've never been into autographs. Just don't see the point in them at all. I've met a lot of celebs over the years, but never once asked for an autograph... it's just a signature after all heheh. Robert Englund is doing a book signing here in the near future, and even though I'm a huuuuuuge Freddy fan, I'm still not interested in getting anything signed by him. I've just never understood why people are so obsessed with getting signatures (other than the jerks who collect them to sell for a high price on eBay 'n what not).

Cultural hangover from before cameras were cheap and ubiquitous.

Collecting locks of hair is starting to make sense though.

What about a photo of you and him? That'd be nice. You're kind of right about signatures, but I have 2 signed Penny Arcade books from Gabe and Tycho, i like to think it has more value now

Just saw the movie and it is a travesty that it didn't get a theatrical release. It really is one of the best horror movies ive seen in awhile and it was really fun to watch. I'm probably going to watch it again after i post this

Why do orange treats always look so unappealing to me?

Sounds like it was a really cool event. As always, I wish they had things like that around here. And that's a pretty tasty snack table to boot. Was it very crowded? The pics look full (but not packed) with people.

And I'm in the "Loves getting autographs" camp. Not entirely sure why, since I'm not one to sell them (they can leave my possession when pried from my cold, dead hands. Or, I suppose, cold broke hands in a pinch). I just think they're a cool thing to have, an ever present reminder of meeting someone cool and something that makes any DVD case or poster a bit more special.

We need one of those in-depth reviews of TrT with the jokes and the gifs and whatnot.

Hey -RoG-,

What happened to this place?
Where's everyone?!

The comics shop wasn't very packed when I was there, but the art show next door was completely slammed. I think everybody was heading in there first and then going to the comic shop afterwards to meet the director and then go have some free snacks & drinks and watch the movie out back.

I just finished watching my new DVD of this film and lemme tell you, RoG, I likes it.

The movie is all you promised and more. I mean, Wow. I'm a sucker for anthologies or anything that ties multiple stories together, really. Pretty much ever since the Tales From the Darkside Movie (which is my official suggestion for an I-mocking).

But as for TrT, man, this movie had everything I like to see in a good Hallowe'en flick; AMAZING costumes and character design, above-the-bar acting, and character oozing out of every frame. I found myself surprisingly wrong about what I expected to come next a bunch of times, especially during Pricipal Wilkins' scenes. I mean, you could tell something was off, but until you actually see the delivery on some of the scares, it's not what you expect and it's ALWAYS something awesome. I mean, I pride myself on being able to call what's going to happen next in horror flicks, and I kept missing the mark with this one... and it was awesome.

Any movie that can keep my surprised and guessing like this one did is a gem.

I gave it a 9/10. 9 only because it was over far too soon. :P

I still cannot believe I didn't hear about this one until coming here. Thanks again, RoG. You're obviously a man who can appreciate the awesome. Keep it up.
