I've reviewed a variety of Halloween novelties from Morbid Enterprises over the years, as they produce the kind of items that anybody would drool over. Whether it's a floating Slimer with exaggerated butt cheeks, or a giant inflatable Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, they never seem to disappoint. One of their most recent October offerings is also one of my favorites to date, and I'm going to be giving two of them away to some lucky winners. But first, let's take look at the subject of today's entry:
Behold the Trick 'r Treat Animated Sam plush toy! I was really excited when I first saw this thing promoted, not just because I have an ever-growing collection of Sam toys, but because it's probably the most adorable one I've seen so far. The best representation of Sam will always be the original Sideshow Collectibles figure, but considering that one was extremely limited in release and it now goes for $500+, you'll probably want to find an alternative. I suggest this fella.
I mean, come on... when even the illustration on the instructions sheet puts a smile on your face, you know you're dealing with something great. I love that you have to open his footy pajamas in the back by undoing some velcro (just like classic pajamas) in order to turn his power on. Of course, it would've been funnier if you had to open a "poop flap" in his pajamas to do it, but we'll take what we can get when it comes to Sam.
This is one of those rare cases where I dare say the toy looks better than what's pictured on the package. He's perfectly plushy and squashed to the right proportions, yet still maintains all the essential details that make him Sam - from his Halloweeny pumpkin lollipop to the stitching and patches on his body. We've seen the Funko POP! and Super7 ReAction Sam figures, but I think this is one displays far better and is easily the most adorable of the bunch. Plus, he has something none of the other figures have... when you push his hand, he actually waddles around while playing creepy sounds! Check it out:

What's not to love? He's everything that fans of Trick 'r Treat could ever want without having to spend a fortune on a toy. But rather than buy him, I'm giving you a chance to WIN your very own Animated Sam figure today! All you have to do is draw Sam hanging out with another pop culture character. Don't worry if you're not an amazing artist... I'm not judging it based on that, I'm judging it based on how much your drawing makes me smile. I took the liberty of drawing an example so you know the kind of art I'm talking about:
Yeah, that's right, I drew Sam riding on BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Why? Because I could. As you can see, you don't have to be an amazing artist at all; just draw Sam along with another character in Photoshop / MS Paint / etc. (you can even use crayons for all I care), and then post your image on here in this thread or give me a link to it. You don't have to register an account in order to post, so just upload your Sam art somewhere and post the link right here in the thread. Only one entry per person.
The deadline for entries is October 31st at midnight! After all, who doesn't love a fun Halloween craft project to pass the time during the spookiest of seasons? After all the entries are in, I'll be judging them based on creativity and simply how much they make me smile. I'll announce the TWO lucky winners the following week! Big thanks go out to my chums over at HalloweenCostumes.com for sending Trick 'r Treat Animated Sam my way. Be sure to support them if you're in need of any Halloween goodies! Alright, now get to work and let's see who you pair up everybody's favorite lil' modern horror icon with! Sam is depending on you... and trust me, you don't want to disappoint him.

I tried to recreate the famous staircase scene from the original 1978 Halloween, with a new sidekick. Laurie doesn't stand a chance against these two!

Tom - Nice one! This is exactly the kind of entry I'm talking about. Michael Myers' mask is particularly great here. Thanks for being the first to enter!

JD - It's not cheating, everybody knows Sam and Boo have been buddies a long time. Boo just wants to help promote his "I SCREAM SAMMICH" monster cereal. In fact, before his movie career, Sam was once a big promoter for a cereal company. Few people know this, but Sam used to be named "Mikey" before an unfortunate soda and pop rocks accident. :)

Thanks for the review RoG! I designed and sampled this for morbid and even made the art for the instruction sheet. Your review made this the best halloween ever for me! Often in the industry its all about the sales , price points etc. I love it when I hear from the people who appreciate the items I make and notice and appreciate the little details we put in.

JP Chan - That's awesome, and great work on Sam! Please drop me an email sometime, as I'd love to hear more about your work on it. I seriously love this Animated Sam toy, and from the above contest entries, you can see that a bunch of other people do too! Happy Halloween!
