I-Mockery moving to the West Siiiiiiiiiiide!

Some of you may have already heard about it, but it's now official: I'm moving to California! I'm gonna be living in Los Angeles (Glendale) to be exact and I simply cannot wait! My current place is actually the longest I've ever lived in one area - almost 4 years now. Before that, I was a Nomad; sometimes moving as much as 3 times in under a year! So why am I moving? For one thing, I've lived on the East coast my entire life and I feel it's high time for some change. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot about the East coast I love (aside from friends and family) and I strongly considered moving back up to Philly or even to New York (where I was born), but there's a lot of things I've grown tired of (such as the weather).

I want something completely different and California gives me just that. Aside from the fact that there will be a million new places to visit, things to see and people to meet, it's just a completely different world out there. Especially when I compare it with Richmond, VA. There's just not much going on here and I don't like having to drive all the way up to D.C. if I want to do something fun. In L.A. there's always a million things going on so that clearly isn't going to be an issue. Hell, there's the Fangoria's "Weekend of Horrors" event going on shortly after I'm moving in! Granted, I might be too busy to attend that one, but who knows. You may also recall, I went out to L.A. not too long ago to visit my pal Zug and go exploring all over the place (here's a photo gallery from that trek). Well, that pretty much sealed the deal as far as me wanting to move out there.

This is a move of epic proportions as far as moves go, mainly because a) it's so far away and b) I have a lot of stuff to pack/sell before we move. I've been packing up the place like a madman lately, selling off the tons stuff I definitely don't need (believe me, I'm the world's primo packrat so there's plenty of shit to weed through) and hauling off other things to keep in storage until I'm ready to bring them out West. For all the stuff that I am taking with me, I'm using a company that let's you put all your stuff into these giant boxes (much like PODs) and then they ship it across the country for you. I didn't want to do the UHaul thing because it's way more expensive and I'd somehow find a way to crash the truck during the journey and destroy everything I own. Having this other company bring my stuff across the country in those pod-boxes enables me to do something else though...

ROAD TRIP!

That's right, we'll be driving across the entire country (probably taking at least 7 days to do so) and hopefully checking out all sorts of crazy roadside attractions along the way. I'm armed with several books all about how you can still follow old Route 66, but I'm sure there's gonna be plenty of random things along the way not listed in the books that I'll want to stop by and see. And don't worry, I'll be bringing my digital camera and laptop with me, so the entire thing will be documented and you guys can see every place I visited. Granted, I'm guessing I won't have internet access for much if not all of the trip. Somehow I don't foresee a lot of WiFi hotspots in the Midwest, so I'll probably end up posting all the pictures and stories once I'm all settled in at my new place in Glendale. If I can ever get access to the web during my trip though, I'll definitely post a few updates along the way. If there aren't many updates on the site early next month, you'll know it's because I'm either driving across the country or somehow impaled myself on a cactus. Either way, it's a good chance for you to catch up on some of the older I-Mockery articles 'n what not that you may have missed out on. It's a big site, go exploring!

So there you have it, that's the big news! It's gonna be one hell of a big change, but I'm sure it'll be all for the better. If nothing else, I'll clearly have a lot o' new things to write about. Plus, I'll be living only 15 minutes away from Zug, and as you may or may not know, he's the programmer on a certain game that we've been planning to do. So this should help speed things up tremendously.

Words really can't describe how excited I am about all of this. I feel like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, only I'm not moving from Philly to Bel Air, I'm moving from Richmond to Glendale, and I'm not going from poor to rich, I'm going from financially stable to... who the hell knows. I also don't have an "auntie" who chases me around with a rolling pin at wacky high speeds while I rap about the hardships of my life. But hey, it's still pretty close to being like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Also, I expect to see several things immediately upon entering L.A.: Jack Bauer had better be fighting some bad guys since every terrorist act in that damned show somehow happens in L.A. And I expect to see a river of silicone flowing directly into all nearby medical facilities. They also better have another one of those giant pizzas waiting for me when I arrive.

It's scary and exciting all at once. This is gonna rule. (even if I am driving across the country when gas prices are higher than ever)

It's best to get this done as soon as possible; gas prices are only going to get higher (thanks to the government and their gas taxes).

I'm going to miss you being..... Like a 100 miles away. Also, I have to say I was thinking that samething when you said that the McFlurry Maker mix had Guar gum in it. I was thinking: "Guar Gum.....That sounds like GWAR Gum! I wonder if he'll make a joke about that? Nah, I doubt it"

I swear that when I saw the index page and that new blog entry I thought i-mockery.com was moving to New Zealand! (don't blame me that tough though for such a warped twisted insight; it's written westside and both places have maps alike). Sick observations aside, I've got some doubts I'd like to have assuaged from the get go - Shall we have better, deeper, more thorough, detailed and probed coverages on the San Diego Comic-Con? Will I-mockery have its own stall upon making it there? Will Max B. and Proto Klown get dumped off the site? Will there be a new Pickleman issue to celebrate the i-mockery new dwelling? One more thing. I liked Cool as Ice a whole lot, and then I turned 8.
You had me laughing out loud with your comments about the bizarre speeches that movie has. Please keep more reviews coming along the way.

they just put a package on sale for tickets for sat and sun for only $35! but you will wanna buy em in advance cuz last year they sold out and turned people away at the door! hopefully i can meet you and your other half once you move out here..... good luck on the trip!

Man... won't you miss the zany photo shoots with Protoclown? Your Extreme Beverage Tester reviews? You pretty much hang out with him a lot. It would suck for me if I had to leave best friends behind. Oh well, good luck to you. Best Wishes.

ColdFusion (Guest) on 04/27/2006 12:36 am

The leaving-your-friends thing is sure to be ass. I'm glad all my friends live on the internet, or I'd never be able to move...
But I do plan to move to Seattle one of these months, so I'm curious what the name of this company is that ships your stuff for cheaper than a UHaul? I could use some of that action.
Anyway, good on ya, moving from the second best part of the country to the best part. ^_^ Too bad you have to drive through the third best to get there..

When you go to LA, your temple shall be the Musuem of Jurassic Technology. This I predict to come to pass, as the soul of my dead goldfish attests to. Check the place out-I guarentee you have been no place weirder.

So you've finally wised up to our chill, mellow ways. Yes, the allure of the Golden State is hard to resist. Especially after living in Virginia... Eeek.

Finally, California will be getting a celebrity... We had no good ones.

"Sick observations aside, I’ve got some doubts I’d like to have assuaged from the get go - Shall we have better, deeper, more thorough, detailed and probed coverages on the San Diego Comic-Con? Will I-mockery have its own stall upon making it there? Will Max B. and Proto Klown get dumped off the site? Will there be a new Pickleman issue to celebrate the i-mockery new dwelling?"

Corker Bloke, yeah one of the great things about moving out there is I'll be able to attend lots of conventions and movie screenings without having to take an 8-hour flight. So I'd definitely expect more coverage of that sort o' thing to be on the site. In regards to us having a booth at Comic-Con, I'd say this year that'd be cutting it too close, but it's definitely something I've thought about before, so maybe next year we'll set up a booth! Granted, I wouldn't be selling too much at the booth rather than just meeting with people and doing some silly shit. As for the writers such as Max Burbank, Protoclown, Dr. Boogie, etc... they're still going to be writing for I-Mockery, that's not changing at all. Proto is the only one who currently lives near me actually, and while there will obviously be less photo pieces of the two of us together, we'll still both be doing our usual plethora o' crazy shite. And to answer your last question, I doubt there will be a new pickleman issue to celebrate I-Mockery's new dwellings, but there will be some new PickleMan stuff in the coming months I'm sure.

"if you are really interested on the Weekend of Horrors, go to this site where they sell the tickets"

Shannon, cool, I'll definitely look into that. I really wanna go to that Fangoria convention but I don't know how busy I'm gonna be at the time, so I guess we'll just see. There's always next year if I can't make it this go around.

"I’m afraid of change. :(
Good luck man
"

Darth Poop, me too :( Thanks!

"Well sonofagun, RoG! We’ll be neighbors."

Bizarcane, yeah? Well keep your damned dog off my lawn!

"Road trip huh? ill give it utah (or the state just south of it) before you have your hands tightening around Doopa’s neck.."

Alive, hah! I think you've got it backwards my friend... all those days stuck in the car with somebody me? She'll go mad within the first 48 hours.

"But I do plan to move to Seattle one of these months, so I’m curious what the name of this company is that ships your stuff for cheaper than a UHaul? I could use some of that action.
Anyway, good on ya, moving from the second best part of the country to the best part. ^_^ Too bad you have to drive through the third best to get there..
"

ColdFusion, thanks man, it's gonna be an amazing trip I'm sure. The company is UPack.

"When you go to LA, your temple shall be the Musuem of Jurassic Technology"

Keith, sounds interesting, I'll definitely add it to my list o' things that I must check out at some point while I'm living out West. Anyone else have suggestions for things I definitely need to see while living in California?

"Finally, California will be getting a celebrity... We had no good ones."

AIF, if I'm a celebrity, that's news to me. Furthermore, I must be the most underpaid celebrity ever.

Matt (Guest) on 04/27/2006 9:09 am

I just moved to Manhattan from Richmond 2 years ago and it was the first time I lived in another state. It scared the shit out of me, but was freakin' awesome as well. Now I wouldn't go back to Richmond for all the tea in China (even though I have to make the yearly holiday trip for the family).

I'm going to miss keeping up with Richmond through your page (like the Zombie Day trek through The Fan and the Science Museum visit... that place really is a rip). Good luck in CA and let us all know the crazy shit you find...

AngryHydralisk (Guest) on 04/27/2006 9:40 am

That's pretty awesome that you're moving. At the very least I know a lot of good bands play in CA and the general west coast often. Here's hoping life is great when ya move. Hell, maybe I'll re-locate myself when I get in a better financial state (and a job.). This place IS called "My Old Kentucky Home" after all!

Guest

Martin (Guest) on 04/27/2006 10:20 am

Really RoG? We can be neighbors and if youre not too busy updating your website we can have slumber parties, tell secrets and/or play truth or dare. It'll be great I'll always come over unexpected just like Urkel. The only thing is you should have moved to northern california, the weather is a lot more tolerbale there. One more thing you only like 2 hours from Comic-Con now right? hope youll be handing out magnets again this year. I got an i-mockery magnet last year and i didnt know what the hell i-mockery was so i threw it away, ive been kicking my butt ever since.

Femme_Fatale (Guest) on 04/27/2006 1:07 pm

What do you think the Midwest is? A vast nebulous of pure internet dis-connectivity? Give us a little credit here, man! I can walk to 6 free hot spots (ok, 5 "legal" ones) in under 6 minutes from where I am. I, as well as the others, will therefore expect a full report of your dealings with our nation's heartland post haste.

I've never been out of Europe, so i'm going to go by beliefs taught from O.C.
California is a place where rich asshole teenagers surf and get into trouble.
And that damned california theme song from O.C is blasting from planted city stereos 24/7.

Good luck with the move! Hopefully you'll luck out at the hotels you stay in and they will have WiFi...or at least close to a cluster of hotels that DO have WiFi.

When you're in California and contemplating a trip back to the frigid, rusted-out eyesore that is the East Coast (I'm in southeast PA myself...I get to border Jersey AND Delaware!), please keep this in mind: it's a 5-hour flight. A 5-hour flight in the OTHER direction, however, brings you to HAWAII.

If you remember to do so, try this: see how long it takes you to drive through each state. The state that takes the least amount of time to travel through sucks the most. Or something.

Again, good luck, and make sure Cousin Eddie doesn't talk you into driving Aunt Edna to Arizona on your way.

Guest

Dude (Guest) on 04/28/2006 7:39 am

There's plenty of WiFi here in Madison should you get stuck out here in Wisconsin for some reason. Its awfully fuckin' far outta your way, though.

It would be worth it if Ping Time hadn't been forced out of business by rising property taxes. WHY OH WHY CAN'T THEY JUST LEAVE THE LITTLE LOCAL BUSINESSES ALONE ANYMORE???

Sorry to say it, but California is the worst state and one of the worst places on Earth. I'm sad you're going there.. such a crappy place in every way.

But the fact is that since you're there it'll be much better.

vctreality (Guest) on 04/30/2006 1:45 pm

Good luck on the trip. About a month ago I made a trip across the country. I moved from Norfolk VA to Tucson AZ. The trip was a lot of fun, but I did do the u-haul thing, plus an extra trailer with my car on top of it. Very stressful when you think the trailer's going to come undone every bump. Enjoy the trip and take lots of pictures. Road trips rule.

Good luck with that.

"I just moved to Manhattan from Richmond 2 years ago and it was the first time I lived in another state. It scared the shit out of me, but was freakin’ awesome as well. Now I wouldn’t go back to Richmond for all the tea in China (even though I have to make the yearly holiday trip for the family).

I’m going to miss keeping up with Richmond through your page (like the Zombie Day trek through The Fan and the Science Museum visit... that place really is a rip). Good luck in CA and let us all know the crazy shit you find..."

Matt, yeah big moves like that are indeed scary as hell, and this is by far the biggest move I've ever made. It's also exciting as hell too, so I guess it all balances out. The only thing that draws people back to Richmond really is that it's cheap as hell to live here and it's fairly obvious why. Don't worry though, Protoclown still lives here and I'm sure he can help keep us all updated on anything interesting going on in Richmond. You know, like Civil War reenactments and the latest news on Phillip Morris. ;)

"One more thing you only like 2 hours from Comic-Con now right? hope youll be handing out magnets again this year. I got an i-mockery magnet last year and i didnt know what the hell i-mockery was so i threw it away, ive been kicking my butt ever since."

Martin, yeah I'll be within driving distance of the Comic-Con and a variety of other conventions each year. I'm definitely gonna try making it to the Comic-Con again this year, but like last year, it'd be a matter of finding me in the crowds. Of course, being tall and wearing a pickle hat 'n goggles makes me a little easier to spot, but still... that convention center is packed with people! One of these years I'm gonna have to get a table at the Comic-Con...

"Have a good time on the West Coast! It’s much more interesting than the East."

PurplePlatypus, time will tell! I definitely think driving on the West Coast is more interesting, just much cooler scenery.

"What do you think the Midwest is? A vast nebulous of pure internet dis-connectivity?"

Femme_Fatale, yes actually, I do hahaha. Glad to hear that finding hotspots shouldn't be too hard though, thanks for the info!

"I would love to hear about a Fear and loathing esqe trip on the way there, or a week in las vegas, including the trip after you get settled in."

Jackpot, oh yeah, there will surely be a trip to Vegas at some point once I'm living out there. And when it does happen, I'll post a nice big 'n juicy article all about it!

"No love for DC? Pfft."

Gabe, DC is one of the only places we can go to get any entertainment. Problem is, it's about a 2 hour drive from where I am. Call me crazy, but I don't believe you should have to drive 2 hours just to find some entertainment.

"Cool! i live in morro bay. will you come visit me?"

Orange, absolutely! I always make a habit of visiting complete strangers who happen to live near me and visit my web site and who might own a really big knife that they would just happen to like to introduce to my gullet. See ya soon!

"That is really neat! I live like 5 minutes away from Glendale! Maybe now I when I get that Pickleman issue I can go to your place and get it signed!"

DancingTomato, no, but I can sign it for you when you order it online and then I'll mail it to ya!

"DONT DO IT! CALI SUX!"

Jesse, OMG GUYS! JESSE JUST TOLD ME CALI SUX! I'VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE! OK FORGET IT! THE MOVE IS OFF! WHEW! THANKS FOR SAVING ME FROM A HORRIBLE MISTAKE THAT I WOULD'VE REGRETTED FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, JESSE!

"But seriously, good luck man.YOu’ll do great in LA. And can you take me with you? Not far, just out of this godforsaken hellhole called Virginia?"

lumpisan, no, but you can move into my old place if you like. Hell, I'm sure it'll become a historical landmark after I move out. And when you'll argue about why the rent is 20 times higher than a standard place, they'll explain to you how an internet superstar celebrity once lived there and that's why it's such a hot piece of real estate.

"Good luck on the trip. About a month ago I made a trip across the country. I moved from Norfolk VA to Tucson AZ. The trip was a lot of fun, but I did do the u-haul thing, plus an extra trailer with my car on top of it. Very stressful when you think the trailer’s going to come undone every bump. Enjoy the trip and take lots of pictures. Road trips rule"

vctreality, thanks for the wishes of good luck. I considered doing the UHaul thing with the trailer for my car, but just like you described it, I figured it would be *extremely* stressful. Not to mention, with gas prices as they are, way too expensive. So I went with the mobile storage containers, that way some other company ships all my stuff across the country while I take my time driving across the US to do some sightseeing.

"Hello from another Richmonder. Lucky you getting the fuck outta here! Hope you have fun out on the west coast and good luck to ya!"

Jess, thanks and I hope you too are one day able to escape the black hole that is Richmond! :o

Thanks a lot to all of you who've been wishing me well on this gargantuan journey. I'll do my best to keep you posted with updates along the way!
