Alright, let's hear it... for those of you that saw the movie this weekend, what'd you guys think of Snakes on a Plane? Please keep in mind that a lot of people haven't seen it yet, so include any necessary "SPOILER!" warnings before you share details about the movie. Personally, I don't think any movie could possibly live up to that kind of hype, even if most of it is generated by the fans. What's surprising to me is how it only made 15 million over the weekend; I was expecting at least twice that much after all the hoopla. That being said, my thoughts on the movie (without spoiling anything) are as follows:
First half of the film: Fantastic. It was a total throwback to the unintentionally cheesy action movies that I grew up watching in the 80s. Plot holes galore, bad acting, an impossible scenario, and plenty of action.
Second half of the film: The movie simply loses all of its steam. I guess they just couldn't keep up the pace and think of great ways to keep killing people with snakes. The ending was pretty weak too.
Overall: What you're left with is just an ok movie. Sure it has some great moments in it, but anybody saying it's the best movie of the year or the best movie they've ever seen is clearly a fanboy just wrapped up in the heat of the moment who will eventually realize that it wasn't all that amazing.
So there you have my thoughts about the movie in a nutshell. Now it's your turn. And after this, let's never speak of it again, because in all honesty... I'm sick of hearing about those snakes, even if they were on a motherfucking plane.

Somehow, that dosen't surprise me. Then again, fanboy-ism either...
1. Overhypes and/or waters down stuff. (Example is here)
2. Is the only thing driving something (Ex. Final Fantasy)
But anyways, I do want to see Casino Royale, just to see if Daniel Craig can hold his own as Bond.

pure gold.
i think it went beyond the hype, i mean at the showing i went to there was cheering, clapping, shouting, laughing.
it was as much about the experience and the people, and the hype as it was the movie.
i'm seeing it again today.
protoclown (Guest) on 08/21/2006 12:36 pm
Yeah, I pretty much agree. It was a fun movie, but certainly not one of the best ever made or anything. I did thoroughly enjoy it, but in five years, who will honestly remember it?
Ron (Guest) on 08/21/2006 12:39 pm
I absolutely loved the film, so much in fact that I've been to see it twice already.
What I will say is that the film is in theory pretty average, It's not exactly Hitchcock is it. The film is what I like to call 'enjoyable', it's so cheesy and cliched it make me think 'yes, this great'.
Maybe it didn't quite live up to the hype, but if you look at the film from the viewpoint of this hype, you'll see it would have had to be better than the godfather.
B-movie-dom at it's best.

The movie was great, but just like all movies of its type, don't go see it without bringing some freinds along. I saw the sneak preview on Thursday night, and it was one of the best times I've ever had at a theater. As a film, it's far from a masterpiece, but it was fun to watch, especially with the group I saw it with (everyone there was in college). I can honestly see this turning into a Rocky Horror type movie, where theaters will play it at midnight every once in a while. As soon as Sam Jackson uttered "I have had it with these..." people started throwing things and cheering. I couldn't even hear the rest of the line people were so loud. My advice? If you didn't see it opening weekend and can't assemble a large crowd to go see it, just forget about it. It's not good by itself, you need the right atmosphere.

I felt that it delivered everything I was expecting out of it.
I agree that it did seem to lose steam, but I went in expecting something so hilariously bad, cliche, B-movie-esque, cheesy, and cult-classicly insane from beginning to end that it just couldn't disappoint.
I got everything I expected, and then some.
It's along the lines of Rocky Horror: the most fun part of the movie is sitting in the audience making fun of/heckling the movie.

Boo Snakes...Hooray Beer!
I think it will be better when I am plastered...
Sasa (Guest) on 08/21/2006 2:09 pm
Well it didn't dissapoint me in the slightest and I've been totally hyped up about it for months. Not the best movie, yes, but as everyone else has said, when you have that perfect atmosphere you're in for a hella fun time. I don't think I've enjoyed watching a film as much as I did for this, with the rest of the audience all going nuts about it. Good stuff.

Went to see the movie with some friends and my girlfriend (who's been raving about it for months). This movie did exactly what it was supposed to; entertain audiences via samuel jackson kicking the shit out of snakes. The movie is not supposed to be ground breaking or an award winner; its just supposed to be sweet.
Adam (Guest) on 08/21/2006 3:00 pm
It wasn't a great movie, not that good at all really, but it's fun to watch, again, and again, and again, then invite friends over and watch it again....

Everyone who mentioned Rocky Horror hit it exactly on the head. I've seen Rocky a few times, been to a midnight screening of it too, and I really didn't care for it when I saw it alone on my couch at 2pm. Snakes On A Plane is all about who you see it with, I went to the Thursday sneak preview and the audience was filled with nerd kind and thats what made it special. Any place where I could get a laugh out of yelling "INTERNET!!" when the title came up was a place where a fairly entertaining movie could turn into a legend.
shannon (Guest) on 08/21/2006 3:45 pm
i thought the movie was much better than it had any right to be.
Shane Skekel (Guest) on 08/21/2006 4:17 pm
Personally, I'd rather see StagKnight instead.
Alex (Guest) on 08/21/2006 5:07 pm
I liked it. ridiculous filme really, But I enjoyed it in all it's graphic stragneness and the pure hilarity of the title.
Meat Sandwich (Guest) on 08/21/2006 5:41 pm
While it may not have been the best movie in the world, it still had the best title any movie can have. Snakes.... on a Plane!!! Pure gold, right there. I mean, how much more descriptive can you get? "What's it about?" "Look at the title, dimwit."
Socks (Guest) on 08/21/2006 9:08 pm
Yeah, so, when are you posting rainbow pukes, then?
TheSL (Guest) on 08/21/2006 9:16 pm
Well, it might not have been the best movie of the summer, but it was definitely the funniest I'd seen. Especially the part with the oxygen masks.
1337toast (Guest) on 08/21/2006 9:16 pm
best movie ever nuff said
Tom (Guest) on 08/21/2006 11:35 pm
I really did love Snakes. Yes, it was stupid as hell, in every single way you could possible imagine, but it had to be. If it were any more stupid it simply would have lost my attention, but if it had been any less stupid, it wouldn't have been as funny. The thing I noticed about it is it demands an audience. The more drunken morons are screaming and laughing and throwing toy snakes/planes into the air when Sam Jackson finally blurts out the now famous "That's it, I have had it with these mothafuckin snakes on this mothafuckin plane!" the more fun it is.
Ragnarok (Guest) on 08/22/2006 12:58 am
I loved it in full really. I thought it was very creative, and it lived up to all the hype it generated.
Jesse (Guest) on 08/22/2006 1:16 am
I think it was great. It lived up to everything I was expecting. I didn't go in thinking it would be a great film, I just wanted a good B-movie and I feel it delivered. The snake bite scenes made me cringe, there was boob, jump scenes, one-liners. Overall I loved it, and it was everything I wanted from it.
Then again I didn't pay to see it.
Greg (Guest) on 08/22/2006 1:02 pm
Totally delivered. Actually it was so much better than I thought it would be that I'm going back to see it.
Smon (Guest) on 08/22/2006 4:18 pm
I saw it, and I did think it was the best movie ever. Though I was a bit sleep deprived, I'll buy the DVD when it comes out so I can re-assess my opinion.
Dan (Guest) on 08/22/2006 4:56 pm
The title should've been "Mutha Fuckin Snakes on a Mutha Fuckin plane". best dam quote of the movie. =P
Killgorr (Guest) on 08/22/2006 6:03 pm
I had serious doubts, but it was surprisingly not awful and completely enjoyable. Loved the snakes.
bicostp (Guest) on 08/23/2006 1:23 pm
I watched the trailer, and the song from "badger badger badger" wouldn't stop playing in my head. I can't put up with that for 90+ minutes! :o
Shannon (Guest) on 08/23/2006 4:12 pm

Oooh, those Hello Kitty Babies, I've tried them. While I love eating babies, I didn't like them. They look like dirty assholes... um, yes, but if you squeeze them enough to get all the goo out, then they're really fun to throw at people.
Richard (Guest) on 08/27/2006 8:47 pm
