The Horror That Is The Transformers Optimus Prime Halloween Pail.

Autobots! Transform and... eat some ants!

I've sung many praises about Target and how well they handle Halloween season every year, but this particular item of theirs isn't going to receive any high marks from me. Believe it or not, what you're looking at is supposed to be Optimus Prime's head as a trick-or-treating pail to place your candies in. Sure, it's not the greatest idea anyone's ever had for a Halloween candy container, but it's the execution of said container that boggles my mind. It's as if they tried to combine the faces of Optimus Prime and Alf.

Now, we all know that any self-respecting trick-or-treater wouldn't be caught dead with this thing. If you're going trick-or-treating, your candy collecting weapon of choice has got to be a pillowcase. Accept no substitutes. Furthermore, if you see anybody with that lame pail, you are hereby instructed beat them to a pulp and steal what little candy they were able to fit inside Optimus Anteater's hollow skull. I don't even care if it's a little kid walking around with this atrocity in his or her hand... it is your duty as an official Halloween representative to uphold certain standards of quality. If you have to beat up a kid here 'n there to keep those standards intact, then so be it.

What if it's a little girl?

I really don't see how they can tie Transformers in with Halloween.

Great! I was looking for a good excuse to punish those noisy kids that show up screaming silly stuff at every home on Halloween. Should anyone show up using one of those things I'll definitely put a hole on their foreheads.

I hate this thing. Completely and utterly. My entire body if filled with pure, unending contempt for this atrocity. Rog make it go away. For the love of God and all that is holy MAKE IT GO AWAY!

It wouldn't be that bad if they had cast a pail out of plastic in the shape of Optimus' head, but fabric?

Yeah, I'd burn it in effigy. Who's up for a Halloween bonfire? I'll bring the marshmallows.

But the kids love it

I feel that this thing would be better suited for the holliday season as long as it comes with 1/3 chedder popcorn, 1/3 caramel popcorn and 1/3 light butter popcorn.

I don't think this thing is great, but I also don't think it's an abomination. It's obviously based on the Transformers: Animated program, which is for lil' kiddies, and all the merch from that show I've seen is horrible. I won't be rushing out to pick this thing up, but it won't be the sole reason for me doling out beatings. It's my PLEASURE!!

Why would you want a fabric lined trick-or-treat pale anyway? One opened candy wrapper and you'll be pulling fuzz balls off your sweets all night.

What makes me go WTF the most is that its made out of fabric. Why in the fuck is it fabric? Omptimus Prime is made out of metal, the obvious choice should be plastic. At least you can make it look like metal. But fabric?! He's not some cuddly Care Bear!

It looks like a beer cozy for one of those heineken mini-kegs. Hey, maybe that's what I should hand out instead of candy.

Heh, I never used a pillowcase for trick or treating. I always used this glow in the dark plastic pail with a ghost face on it.

Good times.. good times.

Bah, pillowcase?? In my day I carried a freaking GARBAGE BAG on Halloween. What can I say? I was a greedy pig. I stayed out for hours and it was actually DARK outside! OOOoooHH! Optimus Prime head only continues the lameification of Halloween for the kiddies.

I'll beat up any kid on halloween with that pail, anything other than a pillowcase, any store bought costume (anyone who dresses like the scream guy will get an extra beating), or more candy than me. then I will give the candy to people who actually make their costumes. Bonus candy for anyone who spends too much time and money on a homemade batman costume instead of just buying one.

You know, if you were to dress up like Megatron and paint a bunch of blood all over the thing, it might just work.

Better to burn it with fire and not leave any trace, though.

KoMoDo (Guest) on 10/08/2008 8:53 pm

theMIZER, Mwhahaha @ that one. Thats a good idea for next year. Also, I like the shy one taking a deuce on the camo bucket by the pegboard.

I used the same plastic, classic orange pumpkin pail growing up to collect my candy in.

But this year I bought one of the Domo-kun "green" bags to rear in my haul!
Now I'm guilt free about taking donations of sweets because I'm helping the enviroment.
Seriously, for folding up into such a neat little wallet-sized package, that sucker and haul about as much as a pillowcase with the convience of handles. And it's orange!

Guest

Sakata (Guest) on 10/08/2008 9:37 pm

Oh, and Wal-Mart has the same Optimus pail. But in plastic!

Apparently Target has an aversion to classic plastic pails whereas Wal-mart steers clear of the puffed up fabric pails.

Go figure.

User avatar

robo_rob on 10/09/2008 10:51 am

So far I've bought a Transformers bag and plastic pail at Wal*Mart. Been skipping on that one.

I always used those big plastic trick-or-treat bags, the plastic pails offered no storage room.

User avatar

Geminate on 10/09/2008 12:01 pm

Hey, the typical black plastic garbage bag, beats the pillow case every time, at least for us poor folk.

Guest

Cereal Killer (Guest) on 10/09/2008 12:38 pm

And that is the issue exactly! Plastic is bad! It's made from stuff that makes vehicles go vrrooooom! Fabric offers more durability (How many pillows have you broken by dropping them?!) More pliability for more candy-holding space and you can't tie a plastic pail shut and store it in your hiding spot without fear of theft or bugs!

Candimus Prime may be ugly, but at least he isn't going to have ugly stress marks all over him if he gets bent a little!

Or explode when some schmuck gives you an apple! An apple? On Halloween? That's like giving a pregnant woman an abortion with a rusty nail and Snickers bar!

I dunno, I still find the Batman buckets at Party City uglier...

Guest

Sparkette (Guest) on 10/09/2008 3:06 pm

All of those "hollow heads" candy bucket things are incredibly stupid. Plastic/frabric is dosen't even matter.

For 1 thing they look atrocitiously stupid and 2 they can't carry candy worth a crap, a couple blocks down and their already half-full.

Guest

jason (Guest) on 10/09/2008 3:18 pm

that looks like a drawing straight out of the "special" kindergarten class.

I swear I read the title as "The Horror That Is The Transformers Optimus Prime Halloween Fail".

People, it's already all set up, it was made thinking of the kids who get lost during Halloween. While they wait for the authorities, they can catch some good Zs with that cozy little thing.

Guest

Scoffee (Guest) on 10/10/2008 7:22 am

Huzzah! A chance to beat some stupid little kids to a pulp! I know Ill see a few around the city since Ill be driving everywhere. Halloween shall not be disgraced by this monstrosity.

Guest

Jack T. Babylon (Guest) on 10/11/2008 7:07 am

I don't see why this is so terrible. It looks pretty much like Animated Optimus.

Guest

SGFAZ (Guest) on 10/12/2008 8:29 am

I didn't see what was so bad about this 'till I saw one at Target. That face? It pokes out from the bucket like a snout. ON A ROBOT.

User avatar

Grossenschwamm on 10/12/2008 9:17 pm

All i can say is the design was probably inspired by the new face of Prim from the Transformers Animated cartoon on Cartoon Network. It's got the same atmosphere as the Teen Titans cartoon, and everything is highly stylized (meaning it makes LESS sense the longer you watch it).

Guest

Eggnik (Guest) on 10/13/2008 10:32 am

On close inspection I saw the Transformers Animated logo, so yeah... On a side note the tag is half Autobot symbol and half Decepticon. This suggests a Megatron head style is floating around somewhere. Now that is truly scary.

Stupid Fuck (Guest) on 10/13/2008 12:36 pm

They're just trying to cash in on all the hype. Kinda like how CBS tried to cash in on that Kimbo Slice idiot, but he lost to some half homo with the Pink and Black attack. Stupid Money whores! Boxing Promoters have no place in MMA. As for this shit, they just need to stick with making robots and not stupid ugly pails for trick or treating.
(Diabetes is going to run rampant after Halloween HA HA)

TuxKamen on 10/16/2008 12:27 am

I work at Wal-Mart in Oregon and have never seen the fabric version there, just a plastic one in the vague shape of the Autobot symbol that shows three or four characters from the show. We also have the Red or Black Spider-Man pail (red one's perfect for the kid that wants to dress as Venom) and the hollow Batman head (perfect for that Joker costume).

I almost always used a pillowcase, with a trick... in the car, we had a big paper sack waiting for me to unload my haul, that way people would see my empty/almost empty pillowcase and more than likely give me more candy. Always got at least one apple, also, but never minded it (always fun to see it on the X-Ray).

User avatar

TuxKamen on 10/16/2008 12:28 am

Also, I had one of those big pumpkin pails one year, never did finish off all the candy in it... unfortunately, our place developed a mouse problem and those little buggers just loved climbing up to it and helping themselves.
