Captain Lou Albano died of natural causes today at the age of 76. I for one will never forget his frantic persona from back in the golden days of the WWF, Cyndi Lauper's music videos and the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Let's hope his patented cheek rubber band quickly shoots his crazy spirit up into the the aether where he can "Do the Mario" forever.
In fact, let's all "Do the Mario" just once for Captain Lou today.

I'm going to wear a rubber band in his honor.

A little distasteful to some, but it just works.

Very sad news. I'll always remember him for his legendary wrestling manager career and of course, as Super Mario! I marked out seing him as Cindy Lauper's dad and I will miss him...
RIP Captain, you will be missed!

NOOO NOOOO
Pentegarn on 10/14/2009 5:46 pm
Don't forget he was also on Hulk Hogan's Rock N' Wrestling (of course, it wasn't his voice, none of them were)
And a clip from a match for some extra bonus Captain Lou goodness
robo_rob on 10/14/2009 6:17 pm
It says something when we post R.I.P Lou all over the forums, yet most of the other celebrity deaths only got one or so threads a peace.
Because that's how loved Captain Lou was. You liked wrestling, he was there for a long time. Music, yep in a bunch of Cindy Lauper's videos. Cartoons, not just Super Mario, but also Rock n' Wrestling. Then hey, video games.. he played Super Mario (not the first (remember the Donkey Kong toon) but the most remembered).
Captain Lou Albano was pretty much awesome epitomized.
Desert_Screams on 10/14/2009 6:38 pm
And let's not forget his greatest cinematic role in Brian De Palma's WISE GUYS, as the voracious, homicidal Frank Acavano, whose credit cards the title idiots (Joe Piscopo and Danny DeVito) take and use to rack up all kinds of luxury purchases for themselves: "Thank YOU, Mister Acavano!"
RIP, Captain Lou.
Nick on 10/14/2009 7:57 pm
He's doing the Mario in a better place now. :c
Senor Booyah on 10/14/2009 8:19 pm
He's gonna be our guiding light.
Captain Lou.
Captain Lou.
Albano.
robo_rob on 10/14/2009 9:06 pm
Your right, I had forgotten about his acting. So awesome.
nirvana_infinity on 10/14/2009 10:29 pm
Christ, I had no idea he was that old! DO THE MARIO! Swing your arms from side to side; come on, it's time to go! Do the Mario! We heart you, Cap'n Lou. :(

Man, that sucks; what's even worse is that we haven't heard from him in a while. Hell, I still have my SMB Super Show tapes (and I was planning on doing a parody of it). Captain Lou, this Louisianian will remember you...
Julio on 10/14/2009 10:41 pm
Great show. Great character. Rest in peace, man.
GreenPeaness on 10/14/2009 11:19 pm
Pentegarn In that clip, the weigher sounds like George Kennedy and the black wrestler who "gets down" is TOTALLY The mother fuckin' Shredder (James Avery).
Uncle Phil rocks. I wonder if that's George Kennedy though?

Really sad! we are gonna miss you captain!

That's a bummer, but he's 76 now so it isn't exactly like he didn't live a full life and all.
To this day whenever I hear mario talking in my head I hear his voice. I never could understand why they didn't get him to do mario's voice when he finally started speaking in video games. Mario is supposed to be a tough guy from brooklyn, NOT a pansy psuedo-gay mickey wanna-be mascot from italy.
Anyway, Lou will be missed.

I remember watching Cyndi Lauper putting him in an arm lock in the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" video and it never got old. Never. Not to mention all the mornings I watched the SMBSS before school.
RIP Captain.
Lothalis on 10/15/2009 5:00 am
Rest well good Captain, my you not pass into obscurity and may you always be remembered fondly by those of our generation.
Pentegarn on 10/15/2009 5:36 am
I just remembered, vaguely mind you so no real details here, that he was in a Miami Vice episode with George Takei. Wish I could remember more, that sounds like a lot of cool in one episode of any show.
Zounds on 10/15/2009 9:55 am
Aww that's depressing. I remember watching em waay back in the day as Da Mario and The Cappin'. Heck I used to play both songs on the radio during my DJing days. Such is life I suppose.
I'm certain way up there some where Lou and Elvis have Michael Jackson in a head lock.
We'll miss ya Captain.

I know this is heartless, but someone was thinking it:

76 is a respectable age for anyone though. May he R.I.P.

I met captain Lou at Youmacon 2. Awesome guy! I told him I was surprised his autographs were free and mentioned that Kevin Nash charged me 15 bucks.
He said Kevin Nash was a son of a bitch, shook my hand and sent me along my merry way.
Awesome guy!
saturnknight on 10/15/2009 3:03 pm
i know a special needs guy who couldn't afford an autograph from the ultimate warrior from one of his visits to a hospital....
but seriously, Lou always seemed to be a nice guy. and the age he made it to is impressive.
Wyldflame on 10/15/2009 3:40 pm
Ahhh Cap'n Lou
we'll miss you buddy.
I propose that we celebrate this day for all time, October 15th, Captain Lou day. May we all watch Mario, Cindi Lauper videos, any and all things Lou Albano.
Jonathan Passow (Guest) on 10/15/2009 4:58 pm
Unholy cows! He WAS Mario!!!! I watched that show and never knew!!!! WOW!!!
RIP little guy!
johnnycancer on 10/15/2009 6:00 pm
Yes, he was indeed Mario. The REAL Mario. The tough Italian plumber who could get the job done. I think we're all going to feel the loss from this one for a while.

Let's all raise a glass of unborn virgin goat's milk to the memory of a true one-of-a-kind personality. I just wish Captain Lou would have lived long enough to help beat the one opponent he really wanted to send to the mat: MS.
