Important Poll For Doc Mock.

Hey all,

We're thinking about switching Doc Mock to a different day and time slot and could really use your input on the matter. While we realize there's no way to please everybody with any given time slot for the show, since our viewers are all over the world in different time zones, we still wait to hear what you have to say. I've created a poll based on the two available time slots we could do - 10pm PST / 1am EST on FRIDAY nights or 8pm PST / 11pm EST on THURSDAY nights.

Please click the link to the poll below to cast your vote:
http://www.i-mockery.com/doc-mock-poll.php

Once you've cast your vote, feel free to post any additional comments you have about the potential day and time switch in this blog thread. Thanks guys!

I would have to say to stick with the Friday format. I typically get off work at around 11:15-ish (central time) and your show starts around midnight. Works almost perfect for me. It's usually done at around 2am ... I've got no problems. If it switches to an earlier time slot, I will still be at work. And if it switches to a Thursday (regardless of the time) I simply won't be able to catch it. I'll either be at work, or not able to stay up and watch it due to having to be up for work on Friday. That's just my two cents though. Archived episodes are just not as fun as being able to catch it live.

I'd like that the show keeps its original broadcasting schedule. Here in Mexico the show starts at midnight, and given that I don't have to go to work on saturdays it doesn't matter if I have to stay up past 2:00 a.m.

isn't 8 on thursday when the comedy explosion starts?

User avatar

GreenPeaness on 03/13/2010 9:11 pm

Voted for Friday, and afterwards I viewed results. With 53 votes, Friday was at 49.1%, Thursdays 50.9%. Girlfriend then voted for Friday. 54 votes in the results. Friday was at 48.1%.... Thursdays 51.9%.

A vote for Friday counts for Thursday? I smell hijinks, Doc!

I go to work on Friday nights, that or I'm out doing something, Thursdays are perfect cause I'm off and usually nothing is going on. I would watch this show live every week if I wasn't at work, the only times I ever caught was when I called in, and yes I called in once just to watch your show.

Sebastion - Every night I have a comedy explosion... in my pants.

GreenPeaness - You must've misread something, I just checked the stats and everything is working aok in the poll script. No hijinks, shenanigans or tomfoolery going on here whatsoever. This poll wouldn't determine the final decision btw, it's just to give us a general idea about how people would feel about a time switch. Obviously there would be some people who wouldn't be able to watch the show live if we made a switch, and at the same time, there are plenty of people who would be able to only if we made the switch. We'll see how it goes...

Thanks to those of you who've been sharing your thoughts (and voting) so far. Keep those comments coming... we wanna hear from ya!

You all seemed perkier during the last show. Well, except for MrsD. I think the guiness zombified her. But I think the earlier time slot is better for the overall quality of the show.

I'm from EU and Friday is better for me cuz here it's Saturday morning :] I've watched it live few times and it was fun.. but I'll watch archived episodes anyway so I don't mind if you pick Thursday after all. BTW Thank you for this show. It's awesome :)

I remember a time when Doc Mock didn't exist and there were actually regular updates of new minimocks, special pieces, etc

And I could care less for the weeklies, i dont see those as true i mockery

Ive come here every day or just about for years, and have enjoyed the site, but now each day i come on all i ever see is Doc Mock this, and Doc Mock that

I miss the old days

kabrone (Guest) on 03/14/2010 1:35 pm

As a brit, its always been hard to catch Doc mock live as its on at like 7am on a saturday here not to mention its 2 hours long. other Thestream shows come on around 3-4AM which is more doable. none of these options will really change anything for me but i would be able to catch the show alot more often as would anyone else in the UK if you continued to use the timeslot you used last friday at 8pm PST or maybe even went an hour so earlier although i realise that doc mock is late-night kinda show.

Also, how are things going down at thestream regarding the studio? maybe they could hold a fundraiser and aks a bunch celeb guests from previous shows to appear.

As a brit I confirm its 6am not 7am. And I prefer the original times thanks

I think the obvious solution.... Doc Mock Live 24 Hours a Day 7 Days a Week ... that way everyone is happy! 8)

Friday Night at 11PM EST, 8PM PST is great.

The problem with Thursday night is that a lot of people either have school or work on the East Coast, therefore will not watch the whole thing live.

Friday Night is perfect, because I'm usually extremely sleepy watching your show by 3am.

User avatar

dextire on 03/14/2010 10:31 pm

I wouldn't be able to watch it live on Thursdays.
Plus I think late night b-movies work better on the weekends anyway.
But if you do switch, I could just watch the archives, and then catch it live once every few months or so.

I agree completely with the anonymous poster.

It seems that zero effort goes into the actual website these days, something I find to be tragic.

Gimmicky games and brief reviews are hardly enough to satisfy those of us that're used to the biting, humorous writing that used to be regularly updated by the i-mockery staff. Nowadays, it seems as though it's not worth talking about if it's not concerning Doc Mock.

It's an unfortunate change and I'm sad that there's little chance of returning to how things were only a short time ago.

Thursday would be a huge mistake unless the majority of viewers are outside US time zones.
Only west coast viewers would stay for the whole show and nobody would stay up to see the post show.

I do not completely disagree with the above nay-sayers. Things have changed on the site noticeably, and the daily blog has basically turned into a commercial for Doc Mock (10 out of 14 by my count on the year). Now do I blame the I-mockery staff who has given us some great entertainment of the years? No, In fact I say good job on trying something new and expanding. These sites cost money to run and why not use the loyal audience that you've built over the years. I just hope that Doc Mock will become self sustaining over time and I-Mockery will revert back to what it once was. Do I have ideas how this could happen? Sure. Are they worth typing? Probably not. I've kind of lost interest in this diatribe as I suspect most of you have by now. At least me might get some good discusion going here.

User avatar

nilus on 03/15/2010 3:21 pm

What about earlier on Friday? I have only watched live once or twice because its pretty late for me on a Friday, but two hours earlier on a Thursday doesn't help much since I got to work the next day.

I guess I am just getting old :(

Guest

ziggywolf5 (Guest) on 03/15/2010 5:21 pm

Neither time is really good for me, but I voted for Friday, because it's the lesser of two evils. Plus I think it'd be better for the general viewership.

First off, thanks to those of you who continue to respond with feedback about our potential show day & timeslot change. Really appreciate it and, by all means, continue to keep letting us know your thoughts. We'll be sharing them with the network as well.

In regards to those of you who miss "The Old I-Mockery", allow me to copy-paste a response I made to somebody who brought up a similar question in a blog post in late January. I think it will explain plenty about what's going on here and why:

"I-Mockery Fan, Nobody's gonna bash ya for expressing your opinion, and I really do appreciate the support for the site so I'll be happy to address what you had to say. I've always tried to keep myself busy with new projects as I think too many people stick with working on just one thing and eventually end up beating a dead horse. I'm all about variety, hence the inherently chaotic nature of this web site which I've always tried to keep wide open so myself and the other writers can literally cover anything we want without having to feel boxed in. Doc Mock has definitely been a huge part of my life in recent times, because I'm absolutely loving it and it's a total change of pace in which I get to interact directly with my audience as it happens. It's very exciting because I know there's absolutely nothing else like it out there on the web.

That said, I've been doing my best to continuously keep this site updated with fresh new content and maybe you just haven't noticed. Aside from the batch of four new Weeklies that we put up every week, there have been plenty of new things on the site in the past month:

Coverage of the He-Man Art Show:
http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/he-man-art-show-2010

Robodemons:
http://www.i-mockery.com/shorts/robodemons

Santa Fu - a brand new flash game:
http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/santa-fu

Tales From The Longbox #34:
http://www.i-mockery.com/comics/longbox34

Christmas Comes To Pacland:
http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/pacman-christmas

That's a LOT of all new content on top of new Doc Mock episodes each week. And before all of that, we had another two full months of nonstop updates during our Halloween season.

So with all that in mind, I'm not sure how you can really expect much more from us. I've always been a quality over quantity kind of person as it is, and anymore productivity and I'll be officially burning the candle at both ends."

So that's what I responded with initially, but here are some more thoughts...

I also feel I need to say that there are few humor/entertainment/gaming sites that have been online as long as ours have that still update at all. We may not update frequently, but we do still update several times a month with new material. Just this past month we had the new Valentine's Day card set, a new Rom Hack Review of Ninja Gayden and now Protoclown's Movie Awards piece. On top of that, there have been a few blog posts, not just about Doc Mock, and there are more on the way.

We're doing our best here folks with what time we have, but we're not going to post new content on the site unless it's up to our standards. We do this for free out of a love for writing and our fans, not for a paycheck, like just about all the other big comedy sites do. As a result, we're not going to update 20 times a day and we are going to pursue additional things that interest us.

Lastly, I'm currently working on the largest flash game we've EVER produced for this site. Those of you who came to our Comic-Con booth last year already got a small sampling of what's to come, but I assure you, it will be worth the wait. This game will be the ULTIMATE flash tribute to the NES and I can't wait to show you everything we've been doing.

So in the end, we're keeping extremely busy around here and we hope you'll continue to stick around to see what we have in store for I-Mockery and other outside projects. We've been giving you guys free entertainment for over 13 years now and have no plans on stopping... that entertainment just may come in some different forms nowadays.

Yeah I really can't do either one. Staying up late has to be a Friday, but because it's a 2+ hour long show, even the earlier slot is pushing how late I can stay up on a NOT work night..
But I understand you only have so many options!

The only thing is, I thought that basically nobody else had sponsorship right now, meaning your show can air any ol' time it wants (for example, the earlier slot, but on Friday). Sure that videogame show might get sponsored, but they couldn't be too mad you sniped their spot since it was available..

Whichever time slot wins, can you advertise the upcoming Doc Mocs on I-Mockery a few days earlier?

You often mention during the actual show when the next episode will be, but if I miss that episode I don't see banners for the new episode until 1-2 days before.

In hindsight, I was probably a lot more brash and unappreciative than intended.

Admittedly, I always look forward to Halloween at i-mockery. And too true are these statements that you and yours have been providing free entertainment for all of these years.

I've frequented this website for many, many years. The content I've read has influenced me in my own writing projects, and I hold high regard to what maybe some others consider just something else to read. I get a bit defensive when I feel like something I love is perhaps falling by the wayside.

I apologize for seeming as though I don't appreciate what all you've done here. I further apologize for belittling recent updates to the site that have, I'll admit, been pretty fucking money.

Thanks for everything you do, Rog. I still love what you've done with the place.

Thursday night is hardly the beginning of the weekend. I remember staying up late with friends at sleepovers watching variety shows and monster movies and other late night stuff and the only reason that was possible was because there was no school the next day...it was Saturday. It just feels right to kick off the weekend with a good cheesy movie and Doc Mock entertainment. With that said, an earlier time slot Friday would be awesome, as I find myself skipping Doc Mock sometimes just because it's so late and I miss some of the best guests. I remember watching the Black Nerd episode and regretting not staying up. It's probably not possible for an earlier Friday slot because of other shows, though.

Friday is of course better. Thursday I need to sleep in.

On a side note - MOAR HACKED GAME REVIEWS!

ColdFusion - It's not as simple as just taking any slot we want because nobody's there right this very moment... plus there are apparently other things in the works at theStream that they can't/won't tell me about yet. Hopefully I'll know more details on that by the end of the week, cuz I'm curious about what's going on as well. I know if we move time slots / days, some new people will be able to watch and some old viewers won't be able to... it's just the nature of the beast.

Robodie III - Yeah I usually try to announce the guests at least a week in advance, but sometimes due to scheduling conflicts we'll have last minute changes. As a result, I try not to post the guest until I have them absolutely confirmed. But hey, I'll tell you right here and now, we don't have a show this week, but on March 26th at 10pm PST, we have one of the founding fathers of the Upright Citizens Brigade appearing on the show! Yes indeedy, the one 'n only Matt Besser will be our special guest, so it should be a really fun time. Can't wait to do that one as he's absolutely hilarious.

Completely Fucking Serious - Don't worry about it. I know people get serious when they're defending what they love and when something like that goes through changes, it's only natural to go with the old "don't fix it if it isn't broke" adage. Fact is, this has been a conscious decision to pursue other things outside of I-Mockery while still keeping the site alive and kicking. Just trying to do more interesting projects rather and gain new viewers for the work I do. I really do appreciate the compliments and the support, so no hard feelings there.

thevctreality - Yep if it was possible for an earlier Friday slot, that would've happened long ago, and we definitely can't do the show over the weekends because it's too hard for scheduling guests (not to mention ourselves). We'll hopefully find out what our options are for the future schedule of the show very soon, but it's sounding like Thursday nights may be the only option.

If I can throw in my two cents on the whole "Old vs. New" I-Mockery debate I just wanted to throw out how dead XE is/has been for quite a while now. I'm sure some of you will know what website I'm talking about. It's quite a shame. Glad to see that I-Mockery is still going strong after all these years!

Oh PLEASE- let it be Thursday!!! D: I am always busy on Friday and by the time I finally get home, I can log in just in time to see everyone leaving. D: I hate missing the show! Thursday would be so awesome because I'd actually be able to join in again! :D

Hey, sort of off topic reply here but I only just got the ability to stream videos at home (satellite internet=teh suck. Hooray for the iphone! ) and I'm definitely going to be watching back episodes in the near future, as horror host shows are pretty much the greatest television format I've ever seen. Anywho, I would like to know if somewhere there's a list of the films shown (and what episodes they were, natch) as that would probably affect my viewing order...
In any case, keep up the good work folks!

Guest

Styrone (Guest) on 03/18/2010 12:58 am

Switch it to Thursdays because it would improve my chances of seeing it and in the long run, isn't that what's most important?

Either way, keep up the good work and I gotta say, Toby Huss was amazing. My stepfather was at one point Jaleel White's (aka Urkel's) agent and they are still friends to this day. He literally saw him yesterday.

Anyways, bang up job you pickleheads.

GrindhouseCinema,

I love X-E as well, and frankly I was surprised Matt didn't do anything when Corey Haim died. As you probably know, this current period of inactivity is the second time in less than a year where Matt failed to update for a considerable length of time.

During the last period of inactivity, which was last summer if I remember correctly, someone asked Matt if he would consider allowing certain users to update in his stead. Matt politely refused, stressing the site as a one-man operation.

And therein lies the problem; Matt runs the site entirely by himself and has a full-time job besides. I-Mockery has a number of writers who take up the work to keep it running.
