If you live in or around Los Angeles, be sure to set aside Saturday, March 5th on your calendars, for Abobo's Big Adventure will be appearing at SC3! For those of you who are unfamiliar with SC3 (Southern California Classic Collectors), it's a large biannual gathering of classic video game fans where loads of arcade cabinets and consoles are set up for all to play. If you're also looking to buy and/or trade game goods while listening to some awesome chiptune artists, SC3 is a great place to be. They're moving the event out of the back yard and into Gallery Nucleus this time, so there should be even more games to play than ever before.
We've been working extremely hard on Abobo's Big Adventure and we'll be bringing the full custom cabinet to SC3 to show everybody the latest build of the game. If you didn't get a chance to play it at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, here's another rare chance for you to experience the game on a real arcade cabinet before it's eventual web release. Myself and Nick (the programmer) will be showcasing an all new level and a big boss fight along with all the previous levels. I've worked on a lot of game projects since I started I-Mockery, but none of them hold a candle to this game. This is the culmination of everything I've ever wanted in a game. Come out to the event and see what I mean.
Tickets to SC3 are only ten bux online and the event goes on all day long from noon 'til midnight. If you're interested in attending, you can buy your tickets here: http://www.gallerynucleus.com/event/287
Hope to see you guys there and can't wait to watch everybody ravage the 8-bit world with the power of Abobo in their hands once again!

While I don't live in California and thus can't check this out, I will say that I am nonetheless excited for this web game. Like you, RoG, I am a huge NES nut, and something like this could easily tickle anybody who is even slightly interested in the NES's fancy. It'll be even better than Super Mario Crossover.

Hey Rog, I'm very excited for the game.
I've no problem with Flash games, but is there any chance of making it a standalone game? Or even make it such that it can be played with the Wiimote on TV if I go to the URL, kind of like what the Homestar Runner guys did with their Flash games?
Just a thought. :)

hey roger barr when will this game be released i only have 2 weeks to live
DTRY (Guest) on 02/24/2011 11:47 am
If you only have 2 weeks to live, you better do something more worthwhile than playing games, don't you think? Maybe go see the world or spend time with your loved ones, perhaps?
-RoG- on 02/24/2011 2:32 pm
Somedude - We usually release free downloadable versions of all our web games for people who want to play them locally on their computers, so it's likely we'll eventually do that with Abobo as well.
DTRY - No, playing Abobo's Big Adventure is far more important than spending your remaining time with loved ones. Tom has his priorities straight. It won't be done in the next two weeks, but you can come out to SC3 and play a lot of it on March 5th.

It brings up an interesting question, I assume this game isn't simply programmed in flash, but in some more conventional 2d game format?
GF (Guest) on 03/05/2011 10:42 am
will there be a SCUMM level?
Orlok (Guest) on 03/05/2011 10:04 pm
game looks awesome, sooooo wish i could hit up the convention, it sounds like a blast! i miss the good old days of arcades. ahhhh memories.....
Alden (Guest) on 03/08/2011 10:45 am
I figure that this was asked before, but, given there is no new info on the main page, any estimate about when it will be released?. Just a question, if the answer is 'when it's ready' it's cool :).
-RoG- on 03/08/2011 6:29 pm
ColdFusion - It is programmed in Flash, but it's definitely not simple. This game is pushing the limits of what Flash is capable of handling.
GF - Since this is strictly a tribute to the NES, there won't be a SCUMM level since those games were always meant for the PC. You can play our Trick-Or-Treat Adventure game if you like SCUMM games, since it was largely inspired by them.
Alden - It's definitely been delayed plenty over the years, but we're finally starting to see the real end of it on the horizon. If we stay on our current schedule, we should be able to finish it up by this summer... and we really want to try making that deadline. So while there is no exact date set, we're shooting for this summer. As soon as we know an exact date, I'll definitely announce it both on here and on AbobosBigAdventure.com.
Alden (Guest) on 03/08/2011 7:51 pm
Summer?, hmm, oh that's... june, july right?. Sorry, other side of the world here, suffering the end of summer/start of autumm here still.
Alden (Guest) on 03/08/2011 7:56 pm
Been a fan of the site for years, also a huge fan of your old 'pick your own adventure' halloween stories, sad to see there wasn't a new one :). But, heh, well, times change.
Guest (Guest) on 03/10/2011 5:29 pm
I wonder if you're planning on putting in secret characters... like Error or even Domo-kun.
Jonny#5 on 03/23/2011 3:40 pm
From what I've seen, this game is going to dethrone Domo-Kun's Angry Smashfest as the best flash game EVER!!!!
-RoG- on 03/23/2011 4:59 pm
Alden - Yeah, hopefully in July. Thanks for sticking with the site over the years... it's gone through a lot o' changes and it's mainly just myself and Dr. Boogie doing updates these days.
Guest - Not planning on putting in unlockable characters to play as if that's what you mean, but the game is absolutely stuffed with character references galore.
Jonny#5 - As I've said before, this game makes the Domo-Kun one look like a mini-game. It's hard to explain the scope of this project to people... it's just one of those things they'll have to see to understand once it comes out.
