Your Personal Dream Arcade?

Been busy working on the recent mini Flash games and Abobo's Big Adventure lately, but I've been thinking about classic arcade games a lot too (probably because of SC3), so I figured now's a good a time as any to have a little discussion about 'em. I've always thought of opening an arcade of my own one day, or at the very least, having a personal arcade to enjoy with friends. So that got me to thinking... if money was no object, what ten games would I buy for starters?

1) Discs of Tron (environmental cabinet)
2) Quantum
3) Warlords (4-player cocktail)
4) X-Men (6-player mega-cabinet)
5) Ms. Pac-Man (with speedhack)
6) Asteroids (original vector arcade cabinet)
7) Sinistar (cockpit cabinet)
8) Ghouls 'n Ghosts
9) The Simpsons (4-player cabinet)
10) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (4-player cabinet)

So those are the ones that would definitely be on my list right off the bat. How about you? If you could have your own personal arcade and were limited to selecting ten games, which ones would you choose? No MAME cabinets... just original arcade cabinets.

abobos-big-adventure-will-be-at-sc3-on-saturday-march-5th

Abobo’s Big Adventure Will Be At SC3 On Saturday, March 5th!

Abobo's Big Adventure coming to SC3 on Saturday, March 5th! Buy your tickets today!

If you live in or around Los Angeles, be sure to set aside Saturday, March 5th on your calendars, for Abobo's Big Adventure will be appearing at SC3! For those of you who are unfamiliar with SC3 (Southern California Classic Collectors), it's a large biannual gathering of classic video game fans where loads of arcade cabinets and consoles are set up for all to play. If you're also looking to buy and/or trade game goods while listening to some awesome chiptune artists, SC3 is a great place to be. They're moving the event out of the back yard and into Gallery Nucleus this time, so there should be even more games to play than ever before.

We've been working extremely hard on Abobo's Big Adventure and we'll be bringing the full custom cabinet to SC3 to show everybody the latest build of the game. If you didn't get a chance to play it at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, here's another rare chance for you to experience the game on a real arcade cabinet before it's eventual web release. Myself and Nick (the programmer) will be showcasing an all new level and a big boss fight along with all the previous levels. I've worked on a lot of game projects since I started I-Mockery, but none of them hold a candle to this game. This is the culmination of everything I've ever wanted in a game. Come out to the event and see what I mean.

Tickets to SC3 are only ten bux online and the event goes on all day long from noon 'til midnight. If you're interested in attending, you can buy your tickets here: http://www.gallerynucleus.com/event/287

Hope to see you guys there and can't wait to watch everybody ravage the 8-bit world with the power of Abobo in their hands once again!

“Forbidden Love” Valentine’s Day Sale!

Love is in the air... or it could just be another deadly airborne virus. Either way, I wanted to help you spread the disease... er... pixels this coming Valentine's Day by having a special sale on our "Forbidden Love" t-shirts! I've temporarily reduced the price of the shirts all the way down to 10 bux for any of you who place orders between now and Valentine's Day. What better way is there to say "I love you" than with the gift of a spatula pixelated retro romance shirt?

I-Mockery's 'Forbidden Love' t-shirt is on sale through Valentine's Day!

"Forbidden Love" T-Shirt:
United States Orders - $10.00
(plus s&h)

Sizes

"Forbidden Love" T-Shirt:
International Orders - $10.00
(plus additional s&h fees, of course)

Sizes

If you definitely want to receive your shirt in time for Valentine's Day, I'd suggest placing your orders by February 8th to allow time for shipping. That said, the sale will go on through Valentine's Day, so feel free to order any time between now and February 14th. If you don't have a lover to buy a t-shirt for, you can still buy one for yourself. I won't tell.

the-dark-knight-rises-villains

The Dark Knight Rises Villains.

Catwoman Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy) as the new villains in The Dark Knight Rises.

So they just announced that the villains in "The Dark Knight Rises" will be Bane and Catwoman: Tom Hardy will play Bane and Anne Hathaway will play Catwoman / Selina. I was really hoping for a Riddler-based storyline in the new movie, because I really felt that character would lend itself well to the world Christopher Nolan has created with the Dark Knight films. I can just picture Batman dashing through those huge, sweeping Gotham cityscapes trying to solve some insane riddle in the nick of time, only to be led on yet another one shortly after. Think of it as Die Hard with a Vengeance, but on a much grander scale. Yippee-ki-yay, Batman.

Still, we're talking about Bane here... the man who broke Batman's back. It'd hard to imagine Nolan's trilogy ending with a paralyzed Batman, so who knows where Nolan's going to take this, but there's plenty of great storyline potential there. While I don't want to get my hopes up about Hardy or Hathaway's performances, I recall thinking that Nolan was insane when it was announced he had cast Heath Ledger as the Joker. That, of course, turned out to be an amazing portrayal of the character and it's always sad to think we'll never get to see Heath's Joker explored any further.

I can't imagine Hathaway being as good as Michelle Pfeiffer, who already looks like a friggin' cat in real life, or even Lee Meriwether from the 1966 Batman movie with Adam West. Besides, the Dark Knight may rise for Hathaway's Catwoman, but my pants will always rise for Michelle Pfeiffer's. Either way, I think we can all agree that the new Bane is going to be a million times better than the one we saw in Batman & Robin.

So while I'm not going to jump to any big conclusions about The Dark Knight Rises here, Christopher Nolan has earned my trust with the last two Batman films and the man knows how to bring out the best in his actors. I'm simply looking forward to seeing how it all comes together come 2012.

Alright, you've got my thoughts on the casting so far, let's hear yours. What do you think of the choices of the storyline centering around Bane and Catwoman along with the actors selected to portray them? Are there any other villains you were really hoping to see?

Christmas Aftermath 2010.

Oh what fun it is to... make a mess.

So what did Santa leave under your Astro-Weenie Christmas Tree? Yep, you know the drill... post what gifts you received over the holidays this year so we can all be extremely jealous and decide who we need to burglarize in the future. As always, I'll post my haul soon, but since my birthday is coming up tomorrow, I'll hold off 'til after then since it all blurs together.

Okay, on with the gifts! Post lists of whatcha got and feel free to include photos of your Christmas holiday hauls! Let's see just how spoiled you bastards really are!
