Sharpen The Knives! I-Mockery’s 2009 Halloween Season Has Begun!

Greetings, ghouls 'n goblins! Welcome to I-Mockery's 2009 Halloween season!

Egad! It's raining pumpkins and kids in costumes! This can mean only one thing: Halloween season has officially begun! As most of you know (or should know), September 1st marks the beginning of I-Mockery's annual "Two Months of Halloween" celebration. Everything you see on this site between now and October 31st will be nothing but Halloween-oriented madness, so you might as well stop trying to fight it and get into the spirit of the season. As I've stated before, this is easily my favorite time of the year and there's no reason why it shouldn't be celebrated for more than a month. One month just isn't enough for something as cool as Halloween, so we're celebrating it for two and there's nothing anybody can do about it. Halloween seems to have encroached into summer's territory more than ever this year too, so that's nice to see. I'm not saying I saw the Creature from the Black Lagoon surfing at the beach in full effect or anything, but I did see some Halloween decorations out on display in some local shops in early June. You see? Some places get it.

And the horror movies have also started creeping into various TV stations too, which is always a welcome sign. Hell, a horror movie just came on TV as I'm writing this blog entry. It's called "Nights In Rodanthe" and lemme tell ya... it looks fucking TERRIFYING. I'm not sure if I have the intestinal fortitude to watch that one all by myself. I've already stopped by one of the open-year-round Halloween shops to check out some of the latest seasonal goods, but I'm also looking forward to seeing some of the seasonal ones pop up here in town. When those suckers appear, you know Halloween season is in full effect. Well those and all the theme parks getting "Halloweenified" along with the independent

As always, we pride ourselves on doing Halloween better than anybody else on the web, so we've got all sorts o' spooktastic things planned for the 2009 Halloween season here on I-Mockery. That being said, if any of you have suggestions for Halloweeny things you'd like to see us cover, please let us know here in the blog thread. It doesn't matter if it's a Halloween event taking place in your area, a horror movie, a costume, some new candy, or some completely bizarro new Halloween novelty... we wanna hear about it even if it's not something we're able to do an article on this year.

To those of you who aren't well acquainted with our annual Halloween celebration here on I-Mockery, I recommend you check out some of our main Halloween attractions. And hell, even if you've been with us for years, it wouldn't hurt to look back over all that old stuff to help get in the spirit o' things.

-I-Mockery's Halloween Collection: Here you'll find quick 'n easy access to most of our Halloween material from the past. Extremely in-depth horror movie and candy reviews, product reviews, and of course the boppin' Halloween adventures of Count Pop himself.

-The Halloween Grab Bag: Much like our "Shorts" section, this is a place where you'll find our smaller Halloween articles, but often covering some of the weirdest stuff we've ever stumbled upon.

-The Greatest Horror Movie Moments: Another favorite is our ongoing quest to document some of the finest moments in horror movies. Sometimes they're moments you're well aware of, other times, it's stuff you probably never knew existed. Either way, if you're looking for some horror movies to check out this season, this is a good place to start.

-Trick-Or-Treat Adventure: Our largest Flash game to date... and it's all about Halloween. If you're a fan of classic adventure games such as Monkey Island and Space Quest, you'll feel right at home with this one as you go on an adventure to build a Halloween costume and then collect enough candies before you battle the ultimate evil! It even auto-saves your progress as you go play, so you don't have to beat the game all in one sitting.

-Haunted House Candy Hunt: In this Halloween flash game we pay tribute to the games of the Atari 2600 by creating an all new one in the same style. You must guide two buddies (who just so happen to be from a galaxy far, far away) through all the treacherous rooms of a spooky haunted house as they hold hands. Should you reach the end of the game, you'll have a showdown with the ultimate candy hoarder - The Grim Reaper himself! I've also heard from a reliable source (ie: myself) that there's a secret level select hidden somewhere in the game. But you don't need that anyway, right? Cheater!

-Doc Mock's Movie Mausoleum: Word on the street is that our resident horror and b-movie host, Doc Mock, will be returning with brand new LIVE episodes starting on Friday, September 18th! Until then, be sure to catch up on all the horrifying and bizarre flicks he's already aired along with his co-host, Miss Diagnosis, and mutant tech guru, Licky! As always, you can expect crazy new guests to join in with the Doc on every episode!

Of course, you can still expect our regular site updates to the Blabber Blog and Weeklies section (and we have plenty of archived Halloween blog entries for you peruse), along with a whole new slew of Halloweeny articles this season. We've also got some great Halloween contests in store for you to participate in as well. I-Mockery's big 2009 Halloween season has finally begun and I hope you guys will all be here to join in all the ghoulicious fun!

The Final Remnants Of Halloween.

You will be missed, Sewer Zombie Head. :(

Early last week I was out walking and I noticed something strange lying on the ground near a sewer grate on the other side of the road. When I walked over to get a closer look, I realized it was a discarded novelty zombie head from Halloween. The day after Halloween, we had a big rainstorm here in L.A. (which is always a rare treat), and it had apparently washed this foam-stuffed zombie head all the way down to the bottom of my street. Something about seeing it just helplessly lying there demanded that I get some photos of it. A simple severed zombie head lying on a sewer grate amongst the leaves, grass and trash as the water flowed behind it and people walked on by while not even taking the time to stop and appreciate it. It almost felt like I had made a discovery that nobody else new about. A poetic goodbye to Halloween 2008 if you will.

Every day since I first discovered it on the ground, I've been walking by my zombie head always smiling as I passed it. Unfortunately, he did eventually make his way into the sewer, but I like to think that he floated off somewhere and is now providing somebody else with daily smiles. Thanks for making my recent walks all the better, Sewer Zombie Head. You will be missed.

Hit the jump to see some more photos that were taken of the Sewer Zombie Head. (more...)

The Post-Halloween… Post.

They really need to promote the West Hollywood Costume Carnival more... there was hardly anybody there!

Man... I'm still recovering from Halloween. The annual West Hollywood Costume Carnival was just too much fun as expected and I wish it could've gone on for another 24 hours. My pal Tyler and I dressed up as Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, complete with giant heads and arm extensions, and the costumes were an absolute hit. We couldn't take five steps without being absolutely mobbed by everybody on the street. There were well over 250,000 people there that night, and I feel like just about every single one of them asked us to stop and take a photo with 'em. Re even saw some woman run up to me and pinch my ass. Yeah baby... the ladies love Voorhees. Every now and then, we would stop taking photos with people and have a real live Freddy vs. Jason battle right there in the streets. Of course, when you're hurling giant arm extensions at each other while wearing big masks that render you nearly blind, it's hard to pull off the same acrobatics seen in the FvJ movie.

On top of all o' that commotion, the local ABC news station apparently liked our costumes a lot as well, because they pulled us aside and conducted a little interview. Fortunately, we found the video on their web site and one of our site members was nice enough to capture it for us (thanks Tadao!). Take a look after the jump: (more...)

We Were Zombies Once… And Young.

THE GLORY DAYS

Time was, it was easy to be a zombie back in the old days. "The glory days" we called 'em. Not so much the case now, with the advent of faster cars, better guns, and reality TV. But in the old days, things was pretty darn good for me and the crew I run around with. Back then people didn't have the kind of firepower they got now, and cars, they moved so slow, why, you could practically keep right on top of 'em with a good paced shuffle, assuming you still had both yer feet to work with. There also weren't no damned horror movies explicitly tellin' people that a head shot was a kill shot. No sir, back then it was all chest shots and clumsy extremity wounds. Well, big deal! We could deal with the discomfort! Anything for a little lunch. Besides, we learned that the more ya flailed around, the less likely they were to hit ya somewhere that mattered, on account o' their eyes being drawn to yer wildly windmillin' limbs and all. The Latest Spooky Sodas.

What, no Creature From The Black Lagoon 'Blackberry' flavored sodas?

Man, is Halloween sneaking up on us this year or what? How the hell is it already October 30th? HOW!? I guess when you're spending your days living and breathing this season like I do, it can all blow by pretty quickly. I always have a ton of leftover stuff that I bought between September and October that I never had a chance to feature on the site. Sure, that always leaves me some extra stuff to write about the following year, but it also means I need to find a place to store it for the next 365 days, and I already have more boxes filled with Halloween goods than anybody probably should.

Well anyway, amongst my bags o' Halloween purchases, I realized I had all these new Jones Soda varieties still. It's 3am and I've gotta wake up in a few hours. Hmmm... yeah... I think that means now is the perfect time to do a soda taste test. Halloween demands that I toss out all logic and reason. (more...)
