I'm guessing it was about 1-2mm in length; IMO, the cookie cutters are an unlikely source for a curly shard of metal (most likely aluminum - steel would be much harder to cut). Were you using dough from a tube or a tin? Metallic fragments can be generated from opening an end of the tube (usually sealed with a soft metal slug) or from either end of the tin (usually aluminum). Could the "metal" actually be a piece of the metalized paper used as the body of the tin?

In any event, all food products have to be GRAS per the 23 CFR 175 blah blah blah (I forget the exact reference, can look it up if needed). In all likliehood the piece is too small to engender any type of reaction upon accidental ingestion. If it did then the individual so affected would probably have many other allergic reactions as well.

Bottom line - don't worry about it.

I'm -hoping- that was the only metal curl in the batch. I inspected the rest closely and didn't see a hint of metal or any darkness in the dough.

I pasted some old get well cards into a scrapbook and promptly wished I never had. They were a bigger nuisance than if I'd kept them in a box.

Fun fact: I went to a religious charter school in 3rd grade. Our teacher was a crazy "lay nun" (didn't live in a convent). I have many horror stories about that year, but one of the first things she told us to bring in was a scrapbook for "our work". She kept the scrapbooks and we didn't see them again till the end of the year.

When we got them back, we'd expected our good assignments to be in them, but she'd put in all the worst assignments, the ones marked up in red pencil where she pretty much called us idiots. She said, "Now you keep this and one day you'll feel bad about what you put me through."

Psycho bitch.

Maybe that's what put me off scrapbooking.

The St. Vincent de Paul near where the bf is from is amazing. Smells like laundry detergent and dryer sheets- clean clean clean. And books are 20 cents apiece. I can load up an entire friggin' shopping cart.

The Goodwill here smells like BO and that earwaxy smell of stored clothes.

The Salvation Army used to be a smoking-allowed flea market and everything there smells like cigarette smoke.

I love thrift stores. We had one in Northern Cali that was also the shelter. Eureka being a small town, we already knew the bums anyways. So we didn't mind walking past them to look at shit. My ex collected a certain type of gold leafed alcohol serving glassware and I looked for anything I wanted. She would never let me get clothes though because she wanted me to look nice. I hate looking nice. It attracts all the wrong women. Those women expect things of me that I will never do, like have a successful job so they can get a job doing what they like for almost no money.

Yeah, books was always a given, that was the first area we would start in, but if we specifically wanted books, Eureka had some quality used book stores. That's about the only thing I miss about that place.

That's everywhere. My last 8 years was in grocery stores. I pushed not taking disability as long as I possibly could because I thought I would wind up killing myself for being less than human, which I was almost successful at.

My doctors told me to stop and do Disability 10 years before I actually did. Didn't want to have to go that route.

I finally got fired for showing up to work late all the time. Fatigue finally caught up with me and I had to admit defeat. I still have 6 months to go till I can get Medicare and get the meds I need. Right now I have to beg the state for help, and they hate doing that.

Well the first 6 years I was a baker turned bakery manager. I quit that place due to politics and moved to the beach. There I got involved with a local Health Foods grocery store. I worked as a stocker/cashier/weekend receiver. The hours were all over the place and my pain causes me lack of sleep. So I got fired for being late all the fucking time. I was bound to happen sometime, I just never knew when the end would finally happen.

Ah, that sucks. I definitely know about having a variable schedule. Last week I was the receiver all week (coming in at 4am, leaving at noon). This week, I've been night stock (9:30pm-5:30am) but on Friday I'm the closing manager 2:30-10p.

Not in a Health Food store, but if you go for the main grocery stores, you make enough to live and the higher you climb the fatter the wallet. You get a dept manager position and you make bank, stay the fuck away from Bakery though. They are the money losing end of the store. Every store has to have a bakery and bakeries cost more than they make. The health plans though, grocery stores have some of the best health plans.

Yeah I've been in grocery on-and-off for four years just about. I was wondering if it'd hurt as a fall-back plan.

I plan on moving across the country in some direction soon, and I'm just trying to figure out if I'll be able to support myself working grocery until I figure something else out.

I've been offered store management positions before but I'm preferring to stick to the fake management option.

There will most assuredly almost always be grocery stores. It is a great thing to fall back on. Plus there is at least 1 grocery store in every tow/city in America.

I'm beginning to think this run of bad luck won't end till I'm dead. 15 mins ago, I was vacuuming and somehow...don't know how...I rolled over my foot and tried to nudge the vacuum off it with my big toe. My toe somehow got caught/mangled in the beater bars. Jeebus, that was some horrendous pain.

Very much like stubbing your toe really, really badly, but the pain doesn't go away after a minute (or 15). It's throbbing and sending shooting pains through the arch of my foot. The corner of my big toenail is ripped off.

I think I've hobble-sprinted around the house twice to keep from screaming.
